I have a garrage that is not attached to my house and it does not have any heat. It gets cold at night and I started to worry about the temps in the fridge for fermentation control. I had my Johnson controller hooked up to the fridge and I put 6 gal of baltic porter in there. I think that it's a good idea to hook up a work light (60 watt bulb) and turn it on. I think this will counteract the cold and will help keep the fridge up to temp (shooting for 59 or 60F). I left the fridge alone for a day and a half and I came back to check the temp. It read out 71F and the beer was bubbling like hell. I cut the temp back and turned off the light for another day. I really wish I used a weaker lightbulb. Learn from my fail.
Can you controller stop high temps as well as low? It might be with it to invest in another controller to watch the high temps, or a high/low controller.
I feel for ya, did that once in a half size fridge. It got so hot it actually melted the plastic on the inside of the fridge. Pretty much ruined it.
I believe they make an additon for the Johnson and the Randall (SP) should do the job. Mine only deals with chililng.
