So I heard a rumor (friend of a friend of a friend, etc...) of Leinie's scrapping their nut brown seasonal (which I've never been a fan of to start with) in favor of a 'vanilla porter' and I'm thinking it could be delicious or just plain god awful.

Either way, if this means some of the money they are making off of their Shandy lines goes into coming out with new beers I guess I should stop knocking it..

Fireside Nut Brown was one of my gateway beers, and was one of the few beers I still bought from them. That said, I'll probably give this a try, as a vanilla porter sounds like it'd be decent.

If it's 1/2 as good as their RIS - I'll drink it.

I'd be happy that they're getting rid of the Fireside Nut Brown...no matter when I drink that beer, it never does anything for me. I could see a Leinie's vanilla porter tasting delicious, but I could also picture it tasting artificial/fake like the Atwater vanilla java porter. I agree with teal, if it measures up okay compared to the flavor of the Big Eddy beers, it'll be a welcome addition to their seasonal lineup.

They're going to be expanding the Big Eddy series to six beers so anything is possible.

Fireside Nut Brown is one of the worst "craft" beers I've ever had, so I guess they are making a good decision to scrap that one.

I'm not a fan of the Fireside either, and I am one of the few I think that likes Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, so I am looking forward to it.

I'm not a fan of Vanilla Porters from good breweries.

Leines puts artificial flavors into their beers in a way that makes them soda-like, not a fan.

I agree. I don't consider Leines to be "craft" anymore. The beers are all bland and lack complexity and flavor IMO. A lot seemed to have changed once Miller started distributing for them.

I never really considered them craft, but instead a semi-regional type brewery that makes some pretty decent gateway beers. I like the Big Eddy beers and have no trouble with a Leines original or Amber.

I'll have to give the Big Eddys a try. I will drink an Amber when nothing else is available.

Fireside nut brown tasted like rotten acorns to me. I drain poured most of the only one I tried. I suppose this can't be any worse than that?

Miller has owned Leinenkugel for many years. Just saying.
