So like the title suggests, 3 of the large format bottles of the Leipziger Gose have exploded on the shelf in my store in less than a months time. The bottle is the one pictured here. Any history of this? Obviously we have taken it off the shelf and will be looking for a full credit from the distributor for this defective item.

Thanks for the heads up! I was just going to purchase this online, but may be staying away until I hear further.

This look familiar? We've had 4 explode in the last few months. I'm wondering if it's an overcarbed batch and a defect in the bottles as the break patterns seem the same. We're still waiting to get them replaced by our distributor.

Our distro specialty rep should be coming and personally picking up the remaining bottles today. When the first 1 went I assumed it was just a freak event. Now it's clear there is something wrong with the batch or the bottle. They were up on a tall shelf, if someone was standing underneath it....

Have you opened one or salvaged any of the beer from the exploded ones? How does it taste??

I was never there when any of them exploded. So I don't know. and at 25$ a bottle I have yet to sample it either. I bought it just to have an authentic Gose on the shelf. You know, rounding out the selection...and this is the thanks I get.

Seems like a recent but serious defect. I've seen these sit around for long periods of time so I don't think it has always been an issue...but it's tough to ignore this many similar reports.
This might actually be worth posting in the German forum to see if it's a known problem.

I wonder if that shape compromises the integrity of the bottle. I don't know about all Goses (especially authentic German ones) but the Westbrook and Anderson Valley ones were not very carbonated.

Good question, but I don't think so. That beer has been imported for a while and I've never heard of any issues before. There are some stores in Denver with bottles that probably date back to 2009 or so. Plus, that bottle shape apparently has some kind of historical precedence. I can't recall where I heard this, but the plug at the top used to be naturally occurring or something to that effect.
My guess is that it's an issue with a recent batch and either the beer or bottles could be different.

Talk to the fine folks at B. United International. They are the importing company for it and I'm sure they'll do something for you. Their website is also great to stare at for like 5 hours.

They do sell this excellent gose in a more standard bottle. Doesn't attract the eye as much, but keeps the price point lower for people just wanting to try the style.

I will do just that. Like I said, we are getting a credit from our distro, but they should be aware of it by now I assume. Thank you.

Exploding bottles can be a result of a batch infection.

    Cheers!

This was at a store in the Tampa, FL area. I bought one on Monday (for $20) just to give it a try, and because the shape of the swing top bottle.

I was talking to their product manager about it, and he told me to be careful with the bottle because "there's a lot of wild stuff going on in there and a few have exploded on the shelf". I drank it on Monday night, just to be safe.

It was good. It's not as salty and delicious as the popular American Goses that I've grown to love (like Westbrook, Anderson Valley, ect), but still tasty and worth trying! (at least for the $20 I paid)

Are these exploding bottles from the cooler or on the shelves outside the cooler?

Ha! A few months back I walked into a liquor store in Chicago and it smelled like stale beer. The girl working there had just cleaned up a bottle that exploded, and told me that when she came in and there was glass and beer everywhere. She showed me the bottle that broke, and it was this Gose!!

Saw this thread and thought it was amusing that they werent the only ones it happened to. They had the bottles on the shelf, and I told the girl that refrigerating may help, but who knows...
