Omnipollo IPAs tend to have a clean, clear malt base. Oskar Blues IPA and Pinner. Many and most west-coast IPA's go easy on the malt (Stone, Alesmith, Green Flash, Alpine etc.)

Don't think I get that one here in NJ

Very rarely will fresh ipa from California have much of a malt presence.

I dont know what NJ gets, but I assume stone, Firestone, Ballast Point.

    Union Jack
    Sculpin
    Ruination 2.0

    Id start there

Racer 5 is not malty if fresh. You may have got an older beer.

    Port Wipeout....

Fresh though. I once bought a bottle Port Wipeout at Joe Canals in NJ and it didn't taste like an IPA because it was 14 months old.

If you want a hoppy beer with minimal malt backbone than I would strongly recommend the Session IPA beer style to you. For my palate Session IPAs taste like hop water but I suspect they would appeal to you.

    Cheers!

I use the term hop tea myself but it means the same thing. The session beers I've tried so far are primarily a hop flavor and little else. There are exceptions, Southern Tier Right-O-Way comes to mind, but that's been my experience so far. Session IPA seems to be a concept looking for an audience.

I beg to differ. Founders All Day IPA which is a Session IPA is selling outrageously well:

“GRAND RAPIDS — It is the beer that almost wasn't and now it represents half of the total liquid that Founders Brewing Co. currently bottles, kegs and cans.

All Day IPA, a "session ale" that nearly predates the term, is the force behind the $40 million expansion of Founders this year — the latest growth spurt in a seemingly never-ending series of enlargements for the ascendant beer-maker, which now occupies an entire block of downtown Grand Rapids.”

I have only bought All Day IPA once (a draft pint) and it will not be a repeat purchase for me since I am not a fan of hop water. Needless to say but lots of other craft beer drinkers think differently than me.

    Cheers!

Yes, there are exceptions, some may do well, but as a whole I believe the category misses the mark. A session beer under any definition means having more than one and single dimensional flavor Session IPAs are not interesting enough to have more than one.

It's not an IPA technically, but I'd recommend Carton Boat Beer. Tastes like pure hops to me when fresh, and since you're also in NJ getting it won't be too much of a hassle.

The majority of beer drinkers (i.e., the folks who drink AAL beers like Bud Light) would disagree with you here.

    Cheers!

I am not threatened by mere numbers. As Bill Travis famously said, "Somewhere a line must be drawn". My stand against uninteresting beers is a position from which I will not retreat.

That much is clear based upon your personal posts in this thread.

I really like Boat. Best Ipa around me is Head High from Kane Brewery.

Founders All-Day IPA success is more due to the bulk 15-can value pack pricing than anything else.

But people are buying those 15 cans to drink them. For me the 15-can format is not a value since that just means more watery beer to be consumed. Needless to say consumers are buying that pack with the idea to drink & enjoy those beers.

    Cheers!

The point is, the packaging/pricing format decision rather than the beer itself is driving Founders' expansion, no matter how they choose to word it.

Put any good beer in a 15-can pack for $18 and watch sales go up.

Those 15 packs were going on sale out here in Cali for 14$.....and ya, we ran thru a few of them.

Its still one of the better sessions however. But I personally wouldnt drink that many. We were splitting between 4-5 ppl and supplementing with other beers

Night Shift Whirlpool immediately comes to mind based on your description. Tons of flavor with very little distraction from the hops and a bright yellow haze. Best of luck!
