Got to enjoy quite a bit of 2014 CBS last month and yes it is one of the best beers I've ever had. If you want to try something surprisingly similar you should try and trade for some OddSide Ales Hipster Brunch Stout. It's not as complex and the bourbon flavor isn't as big but it is fantastic.

I had a pretty fresh bottle back in 2011 when it was released and it was one of the best beers I had ever had at that time.

Lol! I thought the same thing too. If I were in your area, I'd buy you a brew! I also agree with you. Founders doesn't distribute here also. So I'm not looking forward to driving an hour just to wait in line and hope I get a serving of this Stout. When I can drive 15 minutes and grab a four pack Evil Twin "Lil B" and be happy the rest of the evening.

won a CBS bottle in a store lottery 2 years ago split it 3 ways on that same Thanksgiving..it was a well made BA stout one that i am glad to have tried, Its not one that i would stand in line for or clamor over a 5 or 8 oz pour worth a try for sure but not the hassle that may come with it IMO

Honestly, I really wanna to try this beer, but if I don't get to, it's whatever.

Founders gave bombers of a new batch of CBS as christmas presents to their employees this year...

I was fortunate to have it on draft (before the Backstage release) next to KBS on a couple of occasions. Both times I preferred KBS, others I was with preferred CBS. Of course, everyone's tastes are different, so you should definitely make an attempt to try it if you haven't had it before. Still a great beer and I would gladly try it again if given the opportunity.

I had a draft pour the first time it was released. It was good no doubt, but too sweet for me. I actually like KBS a ton better. Will I seek this out again? I'd love to try it again but I won't go to the ends of the earth to find it.

Personally I have found that the desperation to log a "whale" almost always leads to meh. If I happen to be treated to a beer or the reasonable opportunity to get it, great. If not, I am not going bonkers.

if you get some, definitely let it warm up. The maple flavor definitely blooms as temp increases. The first time I had it I was sad that the last sip was so much better than the first.

Hmm, you must like work a lot more than I do. Half day of work vs. any Monday at ChurchKey, I know what's winning for me every time...even without whatever the rarity de jour might happen to be, or without one at all.

Yeah, this rare release thing seems to just put a sour taste in my mouth, that you literally have to turn into a Black Friday pushy bastard to try a beer, if it's so good make a ton of it so all your customers can try it. It's not worth it to me to bend over backwards for something like this.

Is it better than BG&E? Thats the only comparable beer I've had.

You know, there have been many threads similar to this one: "Is beer X worth the hype?" "How far out of my way should I go to try beer X?" etc. And the responses have all been generally the same "It's great, but don't go nuts over it." "Drink local and support your town's craft industry."

Really, you guys, none of that stuff is truly helpful. Just because I might have easy access to excellent local brews, why on earth would I be content to just drink that stuff every day and not try to get a hold of some rare, world-renowned beer? I sure as hell don't want to drink the same thing every day, no matter how good it is. Sure, maybe when I'm 70 I'll be done with the chase and be happy with my own homebrew or with the good stuff I can get around the corner. But now? I'm deathly (okay, slightly over-dramatic) afraid that I'm going to run out of awesome new beer. I have about 150 bottles, 125 or so of which are unique, and I'm always concerned that I'll keep going to the store and stop finding things I want to buy. The longer I can keep those concerns at bay, the better. So if something like a CBS becomes available, I sure as hell will try to get a hold of some, as long as it's not too expensive.

That being said, I did get a 10 oz. pour a few weeks ago, and it was divine.

I'd like to try it. Though not my favorite style, I enjoy barrel aged imperial stouts on ocassion. I specifically have enjoyed KBS and I like supporting Founders. I highly doubt I'll get to try any though, as a.) I can't see it coming too close to me and b.) I can't see myself waiting more than five minutes for a beer, ha ha.

Another brew in the long list of brews I likely won't ever try. Luckily I have all this awesome shelf beer to console me (reaches for a Celebrator Doppelbock).

Again, it has only been bottled once, but the beer was not a one-off.

There is a lot of hype built into this beer, but I tried to be as objective as possible when I tried it a few weeks ago. I've had 3 glasses and I can say it really is a phenomenal beer. Once it warmed up, the mouthfeel was perfectly fluffy. The flavor was huge chocolate with just a hint of maple. My favorite part is that the sweetness was perfect - it reminded my of powdered sugar. Great body, but never cloying.

Everything is subjective, including whether or not this beer is worth seeking out. But in my opinion, you should.

Never had CBS and don't know anyone who has had it and probably never will and I am fine with it. Would of had a better chance of having it on tap at my local tavern but they had a major blow out with one of their reps and refuse to sever their product. Plenty of other great beers to choose from.

For me it's about the risk of not getting a beer once having invested time and energy into its acquisition. I'll wait in line and enjoy talking to other beer hobbyists if there's zero risk, otherwise no.
And, in my opinion CBS is quite good this year and worth the effort. Recently it appeared at a local ale house very near me; the event was stress-free, no chaos, and all seemed to like the beer.
