Check out these label on these hops. Would you guess that the "5.7" represents the alpha acid percentage?
5.7 would be a bit low according to the distributor, which states 6.5% to 8.5%: Maybe info-at-brewmasterwholesale.c0m would know.
I've already emailed the address that I usually get answers pretty fast from. Awaiting response. I have fairly often received hops with alpha acid percentages outside the published ranges. Happens a lot with european hops. So 5.7% wouldn't surprise me too much if it's the case.
In case anyone else receives a package similar to the one I did, here's the answer I got... "That is the AA%. It looks like an incomplete label is all. I hope this helps."
A couple years ago I bought a 1/2 lb of Citra from More Beer that came in at 6%AA. Normally they clock in around 12%AA. I contacted them thinking there was a labeling problem. Their answer was that it was lot(hop lot)dependent, or the response was along those lines. The beer turned out good from what I remembered. But that was the only time I’ve had with that issue of a dramatic Alpha Acid difference. I believe More Beer repackages their hops for resale. Don’t know if that opens a rabbit hole or not.
EKG is often whatever Goldings variety (there areamany) they have. I never buy hops labeled "Hallertau" as those could be anything from the Hallertau.
