I made a special trip to Greensboro from Richmond yesterday just to procure me some EH. After my grueling 3-hour return leg I couldn't wait to crack one of these bad boys. I gotta say- TOTALLY WORTH IT! Event Horizon is one of the tastiest BA stouts I've ever had and this year's is no exception.

The honey adds just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the barrel notes. It's just thick enough to wash over your tongue and finish so smoothly. The fact it's only 8.5% also makes it dangerously "sessionable" and I can drink the whole bottle as a late night dessert without being left hurting in the morning.

Great job, Olde Hickory! Event Horizon is one beautiful barrel aged stout.

It's a really good beer, no question. Underrated.

I'm really happy to hear about all the different variations coming out regarding this beer. EH with vanilla beans, with vanilla & coffee, + cinnamon etc. I tried the 2013 with vanilla and it was absolutely delicious! It's great to see such a quality brew with some added flare.

Yep, it's great and yes - it is absolutely underrated. Got a 3 year vertical working, counting these new bottles. Probably open them when EH 2015 gets released.

    Honey doesn't make beer sweet.

Only on BA is a beer 3 points away from a perfect score considered "underrated." hahahaha

If you get a chance to have EH on cask, do not miss it. EH always seems perfect on cask. Bottle Rev had a cask with coffee last week. While it was still awesome, I didn't get a ton of coffee on it.

Great beer but had a BCBS or a Black Note the same night, forget which, and I remember liking Event Horizon but thinking it was a little inferior to whichever I compared. Wouldn't turn down a second chance to try.

I hear you, but I just don't ever hear anyone mention it. So maybe under hyped is a better word than underrated, but I do think it gets overlooked a lot.

I was referring to the lack of hype amongst beer nerds, not necessarily the BA score. This beer is shouting distance to KBS or BCBS, but no one goes nutty for it like they do those beers and others.

As rightcoast suggested, perhaps "overlooked" would have been a more accurate word than "underrated".

Certainly overlooked. It's easily available throughout the state and doesn't break the bank too bad for the quality of the beer.

Great beer. Nice thick mouthfeel for 8.5%.

It's a great Stout period, I much prefer it to Lindley Park though. Just because you like Bcbs more doesn't deter how solid a beer this is, lots of barrel and a sane Abv that won't scare anyone off. I like Bcbs better too, but that's not the point, but this brew is on par or better than Central Waters BA Stout.

Hoping to travel up to NC (Charlotte/Hickory area) Friday to pick up Event Horizon. Any thoughts on where I might locate a few bottles?

It's good, but I'd like to see it done without honey one year. I don't think it adds anything to the beer at all.
