I have enjoyed this beer year after year and I had the same problem with the case I purchased. Stale hops and overly malty....I am very surprised, but tasted another bottle from a different case and it was a good as I remember it being. There are some sub-par cases out there....

Haven't read this whole thread but saw your post Tom. Worries me a bit as I just picked up a sixtel this weekend to put on tap as soon as one of my homebrews kicks. I also thought last years edition wasn't as good as in years past. If this year's turns out subpar I may not purchase a sixtel next year and just resort to a six pack just in case.

I had it on draft in Cambridge, MA and it was nothing like what I experienced with my case purchase. Very fresh and enjoyable. I am sure you'll be ok Walter! I know you pick one up every year....

90 min, while tasty, doesn't hold a candle to NN.....not in terms of style (which they are not the same) i'm just saying that if you put both in front of me, based on taste alone, NN wins 10 times out of 10

I bought my 1st craft beer case EVER! This beer is amazing and lived up to the hype.
Actually, I randomly ran into this being dollied into Bottle King off of Rt. 17 in Ramsey (I believe). Roughly ($40 for a case)
Thank you, Troegs for an amazing brew!!

I am MORE than willing to trade with others around the country.

I've heard that NN will finally hit the capitol district of NY tomorrow. Got my case reserved at EBI in saratoga.

Mine is bottled 2/20 also. I tried another bottle yesterday after letting it sit for a week. Still not good. I am so disappointed I don't know what to do! I am convinced something happened to that batch during bottling. I was so hyped for this years release! :slight_frown:

I have a case of the 2-20 also, and I think something went wrong with that batch. If I drink one bottle I get an indefinable harsh quality on the finish. When I have three of more in succession it becomes very apparant that it is diacetyl (it happened twice already). Personally, it doesn't ruin the beer for me and I will finish the case- probably in pairs from here on out, as it is still very Nugget Nectary at that point- but that's most likely what you are getting as well. And it won't improve with age.

FWIW- I will also be getting some of the next batch when it is released (we're expecting it on Mar. 19th), ever the optomist.

For future reference, there was a post on one of these NN threads that said that if you can't read the bottle, the stamped date on the case is 4 months from the bottling date.

Gotta agree with you. I was at the brewery last week and had both NN and Scratch 58. NN is an excellent beer, but I don't quite get all the fuss. Maybe it gets better with a couple weeks age?

I was really impressed with the brewery/tasting hall. It is a great layout.

I've consumed several bottles of 2/20 NN and, personally, I don't agree with your assessment and none of the reviews from this years release (including mine) support any sign of diacetyl in any of the batches either. I guess I don't want the 2/20 batch to get a bad rep just because it wasn't as good as you remember.

I only bring it up because I have seen numerous mentions of that particular batch; sometimes people can't exactly put their finger on it. What I am personally getting is definitely diacetyl, barely perceptable at first but when it hits through the third subsequent bottle it is like a moment of clarity. I am totally sure of it in my case, I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't, though I will concede that it may not be a problem with the entire batch. I am not anti 'this year's NN', but just thought I'd add an observation to the discussion.
