I wouldn't be surprised if it tastes slightly different to some people. Hoppy beers always seem to have some year-over-year variation (based on the harvest) and they are brewing on a different system this year. Plus, the beer definitely changes over time getting sweeter (IMO) in just a few short weeks. Besides, the last time people were drinking this was last year. Your taste buds are different and your memory is most likely not going to remember 100% what something you haven't tasted in months taste like.

Given all that I would be shocked if it tasted exactly the same. I tend not to get bogged down on whether it's "different" but rather does it still tastes good. I'm enjoying this year's as much as last year's.

I honestly think this year's is better than last year's. As far as citrus and juiciness is concerned I think that's all there, but if I'm noticing anything different it seems to be less of a presence of Simcoe, which I was never a huge fan of with this beer. I actually enjoyed NN more the last couple years after about 2 weeks or so because it would give the Simcoe time to fade a little bit and allow the other hops to shine.

For my tastes, this is my favorite batch thus far and I love hops.

I had it on tap last week at the brewery. It tasted like Nugget Nectar. Bought a case and have tried 3 bottles so far, and each time I try it I am getting a more malt forward strong DIPA. I love Nugget Nectar, but so far I am not loving the bottles I got that are dated 2/20/12. As I said before, I 'm going to let them sit for a few weeks, it is possible that they just need to settle down a bit. With that being said,I am not giving up on the Nectar!!! Wearing my favorite t-shirt today too( Nugget Nectar)!!!!

John, the hype for NN this year is off the charts. Don't ask my why, but it is. When stores are selling out 100 cases in a few days, the hype is there and the beer is now getting hard to even find. Why? I have no idea, but it is. Maybe your bars are aware of this and thus treating it more as a special release. Maybe they've even been told that there is not near as much of it out there either this year.

What ever the cause, there is no doubt this year the hype train of NN is rolling.

I'll sort-of agree with that. However, a couple distributors I spoke with did say they were getting a "small" shipment this first time around, and are expecting a few more throughout March.

Could well be the same thing down here. No one seems to have gotten a whole lot (just from what I've heard), and it could be they're just taking a wait and see attitude. Everyone seems to be well aware that the beer is popular and desirable, and so likely to sell out pretty quickly (especially for places like the Judge's Bench that can only tap sixtels).

Anyone see cases in the Northeast Philly and surrounding suburb areas? I hit up Bensalem Beer and Soda and The Beer Mart at Franklin Mills yesterday and came up empty.

still have not seen this in the city. It's listed on beermenus at Community and Tri-boro but I don't feel like going that far. Anyone else in the city have any luck?

Got mine in Fort Lee yesterday- it looked like there were 6 cases on the floor plus what was in the cooler at that point.

As to the beer- I only had one bottle, and I may have a sinus thing blooming, but I'd put it better than last year's but not as good as 2008-2009. Preliminary report would be more hop presence than last year, which was overly caramel malty to me, but not as fruity as years past. Hopefully I can really get into this case soon enough, and by then a new shipment will arrive.

oh cool. I work in wayne and live in montclair....Guy at Gary's last week said their expecting to get so much that they "don't expect to run out for a while." Last year wine and bev got at least 50 cases and had it till like april so that dude gets huge allocations. (gotta be careful about freshness at that place though)

It seems like Suffolk County (NY) is getting the short end of the stick though. Big Z in Huntington got only 5 cases last week and were sold out by the time I got there on the weekend. They told me then that they expected a few more cases early this week, but when I called this morning they said they wouldn't have any until next week. They said they might have a barrel for growler fills by Friday, but I don't use growlers. A couple other shops I tried closer to home had yet to get any. Sigh.

Yeah Gary's usually gets a good amount, love that NJ has Lost Abbey and Port now, and Gary's has a good amount...

Almost all of LI got only 5 cases last week... some places got drops yesterday, but not sure if that was their first or second delivery.
