Fair enough but we do have a new trader FAQ and a bad trader list (awesome job Oldport) which is linked in the FAQ. If you saw this person posting, report the post to Moderators. Although I will agree that destroying the guy's thread would be quick and effective.

On this note, I have definitely learned a TON from watching someone make a silly ISO:FT and someone tell them they're way off. It's given me the knowledge to not make BS IOS:FT's.

If comments were closed there would be no way for a new guy to educate himself. Except for a thousand "What's the trade value of Xbeer?" threads.

I don't get this line of thought. I'll mention this again. If you had a buddy that had a 1980's Toyota Corolla and he was going to sell it for $1,000. But you just read an article in Car and Driver that a lot of those cars are now worth $7-8k because they are rear wheel drive and people use them for drifting/motorsports these days.

Would you just keep your mouth shut because 5 minutes after he posted an ad he had someone call and offer him his full offer? He's happy, the buyer's happy, leave them be right?
No, you'd step in and say, "Hey man, those are worth a lot more than that, you might wanna do some research before you let this go for so cheap!"
I think there's a sense of comradery on the board and sometimes these threadshitters don't want to see their comrade get hosed.

I don't see how anyone can claim comments of the form "this is done" are not worthwhile. It's nice to be able to research before posting an ISO:FT to see some related trades that were completed; it's a good way to know you aren't overshooting with a potentially similar offer. It's also a good way to avoid flooding the help forum with unneeded "What's X worth/what will it take?" threads when plenty of trades for the beer in question have been completed and indicated as such. I posted a "What's it take?" thread for Firestone Walker 13 only after having done a bunch of searching on ISO:FT and finding pretty much no info on it. Whereas for something like Abyss I didn't need to post a thread to figure out what kind of beers I'd need to offer up to land some bottles.

the only problem with "this is done" is that a lot of them seem pretty transparently to be efforts to inflate one's own beer value.

incidentally, these efforts are a little misguided... the people who have the beer of the status JohnInflater is trying to acquire by inflating his beer already know that JohnInflater's beer isn't worth anything, or at the very least they need some buzz to be generated around the beer before they'll fall for the bait. meanwhile, the noobs who do fall for it don't have beers of that caliber in the first place--and when they *do* find that Cantillon Kriek SHELF WALEZ they're going to hunt the shit they've read about, not JohnInflater's local delicacy (they wouldn't land either, of course).

in the end, all that happens is that noobs without the beers in question get confused, and their view of the trading culture/market is that much more skewed. if people were always honest about closing trades though, the practice would be undeniably useful.

edit: though, p.s., note that just because a trade was done doesn't mean it will ever be done again (or to be more to the point, someone getting a low probability trade done doesn't increase the probability that it will happen again). if i actually used the ISO:FT forum and wasn't such a cheapskate, my "beer value / scoring system" would definitely not lead you to be able to evaluate value as a new trader... "i haven't tried it yet" drives the value way up, "i liked it" does the same, and "i'm not interested in it," drives it way down. e.g. i'll trade cantillon iris for anything, because i don't like it (edit2: well, i like it, but i would neither trade for it nor pay what it costs at a store if i intended on drinking it).

They are not worth that because Car and Driver said so. Nor is a beer worth something simply because some dude's on beeradvocate say so. Something is worth what it sells for...that is self evidently true. I don't see how it can be argued that the opinions of some guys on a beer website get to determine value for 2 people. Let the involved parties figure it out. If they find the trade to be mutually beneficial....then who is to tell them otherwise?

I would let him sell it for what he wanted. Not my business in the least. If he is happy, more power to him. Research doesn't matter....if my buddy and the buyer find the trade beneficial then who I am to step in and say that it isn't?

So now we're comparing beer to cars, huh? So I guess the Kelley Blue Book is like a "Beer Beckett" or the white whale list in your opinion, huh?....

There has to be some comparison, cetherid. But answer me question as roon did.

And to roon, either your answer is total bullshit, or your the worst friend a fella could have. Either way, any further discussion with you on the topic would be spinning my 1980's Corolla's wheels and getting nowhere, so I'll drop it.

Apparently not to the guy that reported you that you gave a big "fuck you" to a little while ago. Seems like you both took that kinda seriously.
