    I don't think I've personally ever given a 5.

I have no problems giving out 5s, though I've only given out 1, Ten Fidy.
If I can't think of anything I'd change about a beer, it gets a 5.

I also try to consider my ratings into a 100 point scale instead of a 5 point scale. A 4.5=90% 4=80% etc.

Never mind that Jason has eight 5s in his rating list.
Dom -- from your review of Korbinian, one of my two 5s:
Yeah, .1% near, I think we need a "taste off." :grinning:

But this actually proves a point in that there are so many beers that hit a style perfect, but can be just a little different from each other. As said, Korbinian is a 5 Doppelbock for me, but there are others that are sooo close that it's a real toss-up.

    I've given Heady and Abner a 5.

Is Heady a perfect 5 every time I have it? No. That said, when I get a can that's on, it absolutely deserves the 5.

I've only had Abner once and I suspect if I had it again I may knock it down slightly.

I've given out plenty of ratings between 4.5 and 4.9 however.

Funny enough, I eventually DID do that with an Andechs bottle I brought back a few years ago. It edged the other two, although I'd love to toss Weltenburger and Ettal in there. Celebrator was the heaviest, Korbinian the maltiest, and Andechs walked the line in-between them. Depending on elements you like, I can see several of those being a favorite.

    No 1's and no 5's.

Closest to 5 is New Glarus' Thumbprint Apple Ale. Good freaking night that was good.

Closest to 1 is Bud Light Platinum, although I may re-evaluate it because Axe Head Malt Liquor was about the worst tasting fecal liquid I've had in recent memory.

I haven't had a beer yet that I've given a 5 to. Probably an unobtainable goal, but I'll keep searching.

Some of you guys take this way too seriously. Giving a beer a 5 doesn't mean nothing can top it or it's some unobtainable level of perfection.

    I've given 7 5's that are still 5s. I've knocked down about 4 or 5 beers from a 5 to slightly under a 5.

There are only 2 of the 5s that I've given that I've had more than once. Heady Topper and Double Sunshine. Those beers are still 5s in my mind.

There are 3 beers that I've rated 5 that I did not review. Heady, Double Sunshine, and Double Citra from HF. I've had Heady enough times that I should have reviewed it.

There are 4 beers that I've rated 5 that I actually sat down and took the time to review. I had no qualms at all about giving any of these beers 5s. Goose Island Vanilla Rye, CBS, King Julius, and Good Morning all drew the highest praise from me.

If I drank those 4 beers again, I have no doubt that they would remain 5s unless something was wrong with them or me.

    One 5: CBS. Definitely.

I will always have one 5, which signifies my favorite beer. Everything else will be lower, even if only slightly.

I don't submit a review until I've had it a few times, so by that time I've zeroes in on my assessment. In particular, the 5s I have are for beers I'm incredibly familiar with, so they were not hastily given.

Only ever rated 2 beers a 5 I believe from a quick lookback of over 1000 ratings and both are TG brews.
Pseudo Sue which I must clarify was pre Florida brewed Sue and assassin which I've only had once but was recent and perfect for me. I have several in the high 4's like prop 14, nooner 10, good morning, morning delight and morning wood...must love beers with coconut or the word morning in them haha

I just gave Tank 7 two 5's (total of 4.88). Out of my 40 reviews, it's the closest to perfect I think I've rated a beer. Honestly, I think I tend to rate high. I just don't dig points out of others much. That said, I've been working hard to fairly rate and not just give a beer a "passing" grade. Tank 7 really has earned the two 5's I gave it (taste and overall, I think).

No beers for me, just places. Grape + Gourmet in VA Beach (it still has a 100 world class rating)... and BottleBOX in Norfolk. I still would give G+G a 5. bottleBOX is still young, I'd have to revisit it again in a few years.

year old 2014 Bourbon County Vanilla and CBS on tap was something special, and by far the best stouts I've ever had. Still not perfection though.
