So my absolute favorites are weihenstephaner korbinian, and ayinger celebrator.

Can you guys recommend some other widely available great dopplebocks?

Spaten Optimator and Paulaner Salvator for widely available. If you can get Andechs then by all means pick some up- probably the best one out there.

From the list of top rated ones on this site, pretty any of the top 2 dozen. Of the 12 or so all have been really good and well worth the price.

Does Smuttynose make its way out to your area? If so, my favorite is Smuttynose S'muttonator

Clicked in thread to say Andechs. Brought some to a beer tasting (non-whales) party last fall as I wanted to share something that wasn't IPA or Stout and everyone liked it

Augustinerbrau Maximator is my favorite, you're good with Spaten Optimator, Paulaner Salvator, And the others mentioned above! To me, Doppelbocks are spectacular beers!

Les Trois Mousquetaires Doppelbock. May not meet the criteria of being 'widely available' (as I have no idea where it's distributed in the States), but still definitely worth checking out if you can find it.

Got a bottle in the cellar right now, looking forward to cracking it later this year.

Great one, and deceptively drinkable when you finish the bottle then look at the abv.

I'm not sure what you get in NV but if you get beers from Grand Teton, Double Vision would be one to seek out.

Very true, some sticklers to the style might say the abv is too high, but i actually like it. In doppelbocks i typically get that "alcohol soaked fruits" taste, and i think in S'muttonator it just amplifies that characteristic.

I have one aging for next year. Cant wait to see what age does to it.

In all seriousness, let me know, a year from now, what you think.

Well, I can't vouch for "wide availability" but Samiclaus is at most stores around here, and if you get in Great Divide, their Wolfgang is a decent take on the style...

This one…all the way. This was one of my latest 'Wow' beers.

If you can find it, I suggest, nay, DEMAND you pick it up!

Some great German suggestions but the ultimate doppelbock is Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche Doppelbock. No doubt in my mind.

Paulander Salvator use to be great too but sadly no more.
