Let's Talk Pumpkin...

That is the best pumpkin beer I've ever had, way to start strong

 

This year I've already tried several pumpkin beers. I'm always a fan of Pumpking, so I was excited to try Warlock when I found it. It was really good, but not quite as good as Pumpking. I also tried the Stevens Point Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale and was really impressed. I have to say it's my favorite so far, but I'm still open to some of the new breweries versions that we're getting here.

 

I've been telling everyone I know to try Crown Valley Pumpkin Smash. Everyone has liked it. Such a killer stout. Best out of any pumpkin beer that I've had except good gourd almighty.

I really enjoyed Uinta's Oak Jacked last year, but haven't had it this year yet. The barrel adds a nice character and keeps the spices in check.

Pumpkinator was one of the better pumpkin beers I had last year, or at least least cloying. I thought Southern Tier's offerings were downright awful.

New Belgium's Pumpkick was a pleasant surprise for me last year, but my expectations were incredibly low for that beer. I'd still take it over Pumking or Warlock.

I've been meaning to try Crown Valley and Stevens Point. I've heard nothing but praise for the former and the latter tends to come up as one of the best pumpkin beers that makes it to Texas.

 

Lakefront 25th Anniversary Pumpkin - brandy barrel aged imperial pumpkin lager. Completely blown away at how great it was.Top 5 in my book.

 

Yeah Whole Hog was my favorite last year. That's a well crafted beer for sure. I'm on a huge pumpkin kick and am currently buying every one I see so I can compare.

 

Crown Valley available in Houston?

 

Is crown valley statewide? Haven't heard of them.

 

Whole Hog is excellent. Haven't tried Crown Valley yet but it keeps staring at me every time I go to the grocery store. Good Gourd Almighty is the best pumpkin beer I've ever had, and it ain't even close. I'm also a big fan of Schlafly. And I might be in the minority, but I like Fat Jack a lot too.

 

Concur on Whole Hog

 

San Antonio has crown valley I believe and Houston should have in a month.

 

Ive had nothing but pumkin beer in my fridge for all of last week and this weekend.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead--wife loves this one, really sweet to me and not a huge spice back but decent.
Wasach Pumpkin seasonal--Like this one alot, lots of spice and pumpkin notes
Uinta Punk'n--Not a fan. no real nose, no real flavor, very thin.
Harpoon UFO Unfiltered pumkin ale-pretty decent, something of a different take.
Red Hook pumpkin porter-again decent but not mind blowing. Some of the tastes are off and a bit of a copper flavor.
Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale--I love their ale and stout but this one leaves something to be desired overall. But better than the red hook and Uinta imo.
Fall Hornin Pumpkin Ale--probably the best of the lot, great flavors and nose.

Which i was suprised with because i like Uintas black lager over anything that the other brewers have done, so i figured this one would be stellar. Although id prob try it again just in case it was a weird off thing or some such. All in all though, nobody near a drain pour, just not what id expect from some of these breweries that i like.

 

Any recommendations for a big pumpkin stout? Pumpkinator was awesome last year, but others were too light bodied.

 

Uintas oak jacked is a good, big pumpkin beer. Harpoon imperial pumpkin is tasty, strong and a steal at the price! Punkin from dogfish is always a good sessionable pumpkin beer. Alaskan pumpkin porter tastes better this year than last, but my favorite is still pumpkinator. Going to try the rahr visionary this week.
