And it likely will only be at liquor stores as the ABV is over 17%

Edit: did my research after posting, you are correct. That's a bummer.

It was news to me...but Avery - 5 Monks was the one that showed it to me. And, a beer store accidentally put it out and on their twitter. They deleted that tweet to cover their ass after the fact.

So... Is PumpKYn allowed to be sold at HEB?

From my reading of the law*, yes, though it depends on the particular HEB and where it's located. I believe they need to have a Q license and be in an area that allows for more than "wine only" sales.

Some stores can. WhichCraft, E1G, Sunrise in Austin - none have the license. While other places like Whip In do.....

I haven't read the details of what the license would be, but I wonder why an HEB would have it.

I think it allows them to sell mead (this may fall under another license too, not sure), wine coolers, other things that aren't strictly wine but are considered "vinous liquors". Obviously it also allows them to sell the occasional beer over 17% abv.

Does this mean Spec's Smith Street will finally release Rumpkin/kyn?

WhichCraft and those other places also carry meads. As someone said below, it allows higher alcohol wine like ports, so that may just be it.

I guess if we ever start getting more beer in the 17-25% range, we will see more places with that license.
