Visiting my friend soon, no clue about SC distribution. Any helpful suggestions on good bottle shops or good beers to look out for would be greatly appreciated! Is Mexicam Cake brewery only?

    Cheers!

Bars and bottle shops: craft and draft, Greens, morganellis, liberty's, world of beer.
You won't find any mexican cake in Columbia unless you set up a trade (should be very easy). Westbrook brewery is 2 hours away and occasionally has MC on draft. Good local beers/breweries include conquest, westbrook, COAST, quest.

Also a Total Wine on Harbison Blvd. and Vino Garage on N. Main, Columbia.
Try the locals: Conquest, River Rat, Swamp Cabbage and the Hunter-Gatherer Brewpub.

Total Wine on Harbison is really expensive. It is possible to find good stuff there sometimes though. If they have it fresh (less than 2 weeks old) get some Westbrook One Claw. Local breweries around Columbia haven't impressed me, but many of the Charleston ones (Coast, Holy City, Westbrook, Palmetto) are very solid.
What kinds do you like in particular? I'd recommend looking at the SC top beers.

A new batch of Boy King just came out, which is one of the best IPA's in the state. Green's on Piney Grove is the best bet for bottle shops. World of Beer and Flying Saucer will have the biggest selections, and Craft and Draft and Keg Cowboy will have the larest percentage of their stocks being local.

Wanted to bump this up. Have a family member in Columbia this week? Any good local recommendations for packaged beer? We get most WB stuff in AL, so was looking for stuff from other brewers.

Also did you guys get any Pirate Bomb?

I live in GA, but I am from Columbia. I don't think they have received Pirate Bomb yet, I know it's not here in GA yet but hopefully soon. Here are some shops I'd recommend:

Greens - two locations: 4012 Fernandina Rd, Columbia, SC 29212; 400 Assembly St, Columbia, SC 29201

Craft & Draft - smaller shop but has a nice bar, great place to grab a pint and walk around and take a look at the selection:
2706 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205

    Morganelli's - 3155 Forest Dr, Columbia, SC 29204

Stock up on Coast Hopart-fantastic IPA-I've seen Prarie Bomb only, not Pirate. Also have some Alpine beers showing up too.
