Request: I am planning a small gathering/ pub crawl. I am in need of advice on local establishments. Here is what we are looking for. Quite/low key group of 5-10 10+ craft brews on tap large craft bottle selection 2-4 locations within walking distance of each other I appreciate everyones help in advance!
There is an almost infinite number of answers to this question. It might help if you tell us where you're staying and how far you're willing to travel. Also, quiet/low-key are kind of fuzzy words. Do you mean literally quiet as in you can talk with your normal "inside voice," or do you just mean not douchey with club music playing in the background? I would personally advocate for the two blocks between Foster and Bryn Mawr on Clark. That gives you: Hopleaf, Acre, and Jerry's as bars with very impressive beer lists. You could even mix in Farragut's or Hamburger Mary's if you want, although I wouldn't recommend Hamburger Mary's to anyone.
i got you man. west lakeview/roscoe village. this whole area is quiet and low key. there is a stretch of bars between belmont/lincoln and roscoe/lincoln. green lady, northdown, fizz and beckett's are all on lincoln. if you're looking for other spots, roscoe village also has four moon, riverview, village tap and black rock.
I would start here http://beermapping.com/maps/citymaps.php?m=chicago and here http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/6 and then come back with more specific questions.
more info... green lady has flights and 30 taps; northdown, fizz and beckett's have about 12-15 taps and all have over an great bottle list.
In Wicker Park, you could easily do Bangers & Lace, Jerry's, SmallBar, Piece (call ahead, especially if your group edges up towards 10). Piece is the only place that does flights, I think. I wouldn't try for Map Room -- if you roll up with a large group, they just won't let you in. And yeah, time of day will make a big difference -- these places would be fine on a Saturday (or weekday) afternoon, but once you start getting into evening hours, these places will all likely be packed.
I second this plan. I have yet to go to Northdown or Fizz myself, but reputable people I know are keen on 'em. Meanwhile, I've grown quickly smitten with the Lady...
Thanks to all who contributed. Now I just need to get everyone to agree on a date. I'll let you know how it goes.
Got a date- Nov 10. Doing Green Lady, Northdown, Fizz. Does anyone know if these places would allow me to bring a bomber to share. I promised several I'd share my DL12 with them. Also- Parking ideas for those who are driving?
