Tried out Thirsty Planet's Pumpkin Masala yesterday, pretty tasty stuff. The spice level was good and not overwhelming. Plus, they hadn't gotten label approval for it yet, so they were giving it away.

I tried a few sips of my girlfriends' Pumpkin Saison by The Draught House and it was pretty tasty... more straight up pumpkin than pumpkin-pie. Did have a slightly weird aftertaste (cough syrup? lol)

Definitely haven't seen someone attempt a saison before, so it was interesting.

It's sold out in my area, but I hope to find a 4 pack when I visit Austin later this week. Whole Hog Pumpkin is king, far better than Pumking.

Anyone know if we ever got the Steven's Point Whole Hog Pumpkin in Austin? If so, is any left somewhere?

Just had my first pumpkin ale, SA Pumpkinator. Fantastic beer! I can't imagine it being better, although I will have to wait and see how Rumpkin compares. Is there an explanation why most pumpkin ales are listed in the Pumpkin Ale style as opposed to SA Pumpkinator. Do you feel that SA Pumpkinator is overlooked b/c it is not listed in the Pumpkin Ale style?

I don't believe they distribute to Texas.

Listed where? It might be because its a pumpkin stout, not a pumpkin ale, but I dont know which list you're referencing. Not too many pumpkin stouts out there!

I just clicked the Pumpkin Ale style, and noticed that some beers are labeled as stouts. Then, if you look at top beers for each style, Pumpkinator does not crack the top 50 for American Imperial Stout, but it would probably be number 1 for the Pumpkin Ale style. I believe in the case of a pumpkin beer that the style guidelines may be a bit more flexible and it seems that BA would agree since there is a separate style for Pumpkin Ale.

We need more non-amber ale base pumpkin beers. If I started a brewery, I'd brew a pumpkin beer of a different style every year, none of which would be an amber ale base. I think an Imperial Stout like Pumpkinator goes very well with Pumpkin flavor and spices. I do realize the malts cover up much of the pumpkin flavor, though. There are plenty of other styles that wouldn't, though.

They just started this year, you can find most of Stevens Point's lineup at most liquor stores. The Whole Hog series has been hit or miss though. I found the Whole Hog Russian Imperial Stout at The Bottle Shop on Lower Greenville, but not the Pumpkin.

I cracked my first 2012 Pumpkinator last night, and I thought the pumpkin flavor came through really well. In fact, my wife (who doesnt like beer) wanted a sip after she smelled it, and her reaction was "wow, that REALLY tastes like pumpkin." But I agree that I'd like to see other styles incorporated as the base. I know someone does a pumpkin porter, and I think souring a pumpkin would be pretty interesting too.

i actually had a bottle from last year recently. While it was a good sour/funky beer that tastes just like you expect anything from Jolly Pumpkin, the pumpkin and spices had faded.

Hmm. Mine's from last year too. Better get to it sooner rather than later
