So I recently won Jacob4999's LIF. I also recently started grad school back up and am doing more reading than I would like. I also in anticipation of grad school did some fun reading beforehand and read Ambitious Brew: The Story of American Beer. It was a super good and interesting read for someone into American beer. It is heavy on the beginnings of macrobreweries in the 19th century, but gets to craft beer in the later 20th century. I have some ideas for an LIF that would require reading it ahead of time. So, I wanted to see who would honestly buy the book, read it, and participate. Like really HONESTLY. You might agree this sounds like a good idea, but would you actually do it? This would be an LIF that requires more work than usual, but I think it would be good for people to read and learn the history of American beer. If there is a good amount of people that think they can do this, then reply and let me know. Here is a link for the book, it is not too expensive used: http://www.amazon.com/Ambitious-Bre...qid=1346358134&sr=1-1&keywords=ambitious+brew I think regardless if this LIF happens or not, I would recommend this book.
Just started grad school back up as well. Less then a year to go!!! I would be interested in doing this. I think this could be fun!
Of course you can join! If others have also read it please respond and let me know if you would be in.
Should have also said criticism is welcome as well. I understand it is just giving away beer, but why not learn a little in the process. Some of the LIF's just require some google work. Not that that is horrible, I was just trying to think of something different. If no one wants to do it, no biggie.
This sounds like a great idea, but as I am starting my 3rd year of graduate school, teaching a class, and working on defending my masters, I am about at capacity for reading. Good luck in school!
I also was trying to give people time to buy the book. In addition I was hoping to start it around the time when BCBS 12 comes out so that I know if I will have a bottle to send.
I, too am a grad student, and have a whole shitload of reading to do. I would be more into this LIF in the off-season, personally, but that's just, like, my opinion, man, and the world does not start and stop at my command, you miserable piece of shit. I dunno.
