Not a PB and not sure I will get there but what you said is resonating with me . . . especially the bourbon. I just can't bring myself to drink beers I know that I will dislike.

    Is drinking really a "hobby"?

I don’t consider drinking a hobby, but I consider my interest in craft beer, which includes visiting breweries, buying glassware and merchandise, reading beer articles and books, spending (a lot of) time on this website and talking beer with my friends a hobby. And not a cheap one.

Today I'm starting to chase the half poo-bah. Only 60 points left to the 750. Added a review, some three years after the tick! Think my regular 100 or so NA beers will be getting a review, have matured into it.

Well, buddy, I don’t drink any alcohol during the week, so I’m pretty sure it’s not.

Not bad, but you probably won't pick up any Estonian ticks that way.

That's easy. Just stop participating on BA and solely be a lurker.

Do you think you could do that!?!

    Cheers!

We had one guy stopped his beer total at 666.

As to gen. question of this being a hobby:
If you're a homebrewer it definitely is a hobby. Plus, we consider drinking commercial beers to be a part of that hobby, to learn  A very, very enjoyable, addictive hobby.

I can say it has always been a passion for me in terms of good drink (food also).

I kind of have a hard time saying it's a hobby, but it does lead to other things such as homebrewing which is a natural progression for some of us. I've done a little with that as well but not a lot. I consider homebrewing a hobby... funny that I don't think of reviewing as much of one but I probably should...

A homebrew club I joined sometime ago I found a very different mindset of people. Compared to online reviewers vs. homebrewers the two camps love everything about beer, but very often focus on one and not the other that I've run into (with some exceptions). Just about everyone I know who brews, brews actively and rarely purchases off the shelf beers, where as it's the opposite for someone like myself as I buy often new beers and review them and very rarely homebrew.

There was also another thread here about the decline of beer-You-Tubing. I has some thoughts on that as well since I used to do it, but I think that thread has sort of died out and I am not sure I want to resurrect it.

The main thing to remember about being a Poobah is to not wear your headgear or sash into bars - the bar flies just don't understand your exalted status. Beer fest patrons are more understanding.
