The bad thing about both of those places, at least for me, is they don't have anything on tap that I don't already have at home. I usually have a much better selection at home, and at the same or better pricing even considering shipping if I had to trade for things. Just not much of a draw for a real beer geek. Redlight is on a whole different level, and I always enjoy stopping by when I am in Orlando.

    What's an "on premise account"?

I have been to the new RR and I am not impressed. The beer for the most part is just the same run of mill local distro that WOB and other craft beer places get. They do have a pretty decent "vintage" cooler. But you pay dearly for that stuff. If you are a regular I am sure you can catch some of the special release stuff they get.
With the buying power that WOB has in Orlando right now the seem to be getting the best distro of special and one off. trouble is they hold on to stuff for special brewery spot light nights.

Oblivion Tap room on the other hand, Great Fing place, great beer selection great food!

Think of it as bar and store. On-premise is drinking on the property and Off-premise is taking it off the property to drink it.

I agree with fishes, There isn't much at these places that you can't at a store and who really wants to spend time where everyone is a sloppy mess. Stick to redlight.

i'm just happy that even the "regular stuff" you can get in stores these days is actually really good compared to a few years back.

Oblivion would be great if they got some damn acoustical sound treatment. My ears ring for days after leaving that place every time. It's like a freaking metal concert.

I guess I'll just chalk it up to me getting old though.

On premise means you consume the beer on site, like at a restaurant or bar. Off Premise is a regular bottle shop where you take it home. From what I understand the same beer from the same distributor costs on premise businesses A LOT more than off premise, which partially explains why a bottle like Marshall Zhukov costs $12-$13 at a bottle shop and $20-$25 at a bar.

Not quite, the price is usually the same but the distributor doesn't usually give On-Premise accts a multiple case discount with beers. But with craft beer you usually don't find that there are any discounts. At Southside we are both and so we noticed that Brown doesn't really give discounts with CCB so that case of MZ was the same as a bar

Guess it could be different in FL but in NC and SC distributors charge the same for on and off. On premise tends to have a much higher markup though

Meh on premise does mean that but Total Wine, Whole Foods and ABC all have an in store consumption licence along with the off premise. That is why they get the limited stuff. Its just some shitty loophole that screws the lil guy.

Do they have this license so they can do in store tastings?
