I'm with you Robtobfest. I've not had a "skunked" saison, but I do like that smell and taste in pils/lagers when it is mild. Cheers!

I'll add that the lack of traffic in this thread (and the immediate and relentless deterioration of the Jester King thread) indicates that people seem to be only interested in "skunk" as an automatic insult aimed at every Corona and Heineken... and as a catchall bogeyman contaminating everything from 3 month old beer to beer that has been taken in and out of a fridge. Any actual conversation about it doesn't have legs.

You cannot relate the formation of one sulfur compound to others, as they form via different pathways, and the vast majority of them are not formed via photo-degradation.

For some reason, my palate has never been very sensitive to skunk. Diacetyl yes, skunk no. Green bottle Dupont was always A-OK to me, I never tasted anything about it I would consider skunky.

In 2013 I had a green bottle of Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux that was bottled in 2012. It had
a distinct whiff of skunk. In the past few months I've had Dupont Avec Les Bons Voeux and
the regular Sasion Dupont from brown bottles. There was no skunk in either.

I used to drink Molson Export Ale from green bottles years ago so I'm really tuned in
to that skunky smell and taste.

Have you ever conducted the SNPA lightstruck experiment?

    Cheers!

I inadvertently did it with some Summerfest this year. Happens quicker than you might think.

The good thing is that the skunk will be scrubbed out if it's not too damaged. Just a quick swirl of the glass or two should do it. Keep in mind that you're also scrubbing out some good volatiles as well, though.

Did you react as 'violently' as Steve Wilkes did in the video!?!

    Cheers!
