I too didn't care for the '13 vintage. However, I thought '14 and this year's were very good.
My palate may have changed as well, but I feel like it had more to do with the berry character.
LP '13 (and Backyard Rye for that matter) had a strong, syrupy, artificial berry taste for me, while LP '14/'15 seem to have been subdued more to my liking.

It did. Is it me or is there a lot more this year? I felt like there were one or two bottle limits last year. They either made a lot more or distribution is better now that they're using Mims.

Last year was the first year that it was really easy to get. And it seems like there's even more this year.

Not sure if this is still the case, but in years past, Lindley went into the previous year's Event Horizon barrels. There was a lot of Event Horizon last year (I still see it hanging around) so there should be plenty of Lindley this year.

Had it this week on tap as well as in bottle. Actually preferred the bottle version. So delicious.

Lindley holds up well with age, actually (IMO). Still, to back up your notion - we did a four year blind vertical about a year back and did find that we liked the freshest bottle the best. It certainly wasn't by a landslide - but it did turn out that way. Cheers!

Interestingly enough - at the release and share at OHB this past weekend, the owner/brewer Steven Lyerly told me Carolus Magnus was one of the three best beers he's ever made. That's saying something - but it is absolutely incredible.

I believe it. Got to try a little taste of it yesterday and it was just fantastic. Dark fruit for days, just everything a good quad should be and then some. Perfect level of barrel presence too. Can't wait to get my hands on a bottle.

Out of curiosity, what was he saying he thought were the other two best beers he's done? I assume Blendy 1 was one of them?

Has anyone ever asked him why they don't do a barrel-aged version of the regular imperial stout?

^ Is that not Event Horizon?

I guess it could be, but the imperial stout is almost a full 2% higher abv than EH. I would think that barrel-aging would only serve to increase the abv, not lower it, so I always assumed they were different base beers.

The imperial stout is great this year too btw, which is what got me thinking about it.

Event Horizon and Imperial Stout are definitely different base beers. You're correct that ABV can't go down from barrel aging unless the result is watered down (which I don't think anyone does and I know OHB doesn't).

I've heard the quote from Steven from a couple sources now (not Steven himself unfortunately since I was out of town for the release) and they were saying that he said that CM is -the- best beer he's made. Can't wait to try it.

Didn't think about it that way. Thanks for pointing it out.
