That's what I thought. But last time I was there he was talking to me about how he was opening the addition and adding a lot of taps, and hoping to go more to growler fills? I was befuddled. Either way I'll be stoping by. And hopefully leaving with a case of Horizon and other stuff.

Mike must have been "quality testing" the new kegs that day!

First there was "cans of tuna", now there's "cans of ketchup"!

He sells bottles but you need the "secret handshake" to get any......

Seems like most people on this forum figured out that "secret" a long time ago.

Funny but I just read your review of my store again, which happens to be the lowest of the 215 we have received on BA and its seems that you already know what the "secret handshake" is Kevinz2301. Quoting from your review.. "It seems like there is a group of people who frequent here and if you are not in that club then you midas well never count on picking up a new release." Change the words (new release) to (really rare beer earned by loyal regulars who go out of their way to support Brawley's and by this choice actually are ENTITLED to said beer.) and you would be spot on Kevin. Wow that was long... Maybe I should just paraphrase another statement of yours..... Deal with it. Stop crying. Move on.

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Brawleys. I've stopped in a few times from out of town when testing for the fire department and it's the only bottle shop I stop in while I'm in Charlotte. A+ place if you ask me.

Boo had the "secret handshake" when he would run over, pop the door open and run out towards Park Rd. He would go do dog business out there, never get near the road, and no one worried- except for the first time you witnessed it. There was next to nothing in Charlotte back in the early 2000s relative to great beer. The young money was still geeking on cult wines. Michael Brawley and his fine family have become what should be- and I think is- a cherished institution in The Queen City. Beer pioneers and outstanding individuals. Good beer is the opposite of stress! Cheers all.

I showed up to Brawleys on a weeknight from out of town 30min after their closing time. The guys were nice enough to let me in so I could get a case of HDnR and take a look around. No secret handshake required. Next time I'll make better note of their closing time. :grinning:

Yeah, I don't get the hate for Brawley's. I'm from out of town and have been there a grand total of twice. Each time, the man himself was there, was super nice and chatty. Dude clearly loves beer and will go out of his way (even to non-regulars) to get a beer for you if it's in the shop, no secret handshake needed. If you want to enjoy craft beer conversation in a laid back environment, Brawley's shop is the place in Charlotte. If you want a Wal-Mart experience, then by all means go to Total Wine.
