Totally agree. I like it more than the regular lager, to be honest. The regular has a heavy mouthfeel and a bit too much of an adjunct aftertaste. The light is crisper, thinner, and without the unpleasant mouthfeel/aftertaste. I like to think they really put a lot of work into making a decent light beer, because it's quite good.

BMC light beers are just too thin for me to enjoy. I think Bud in particular has a nice ester profile from its yeast, but the light version doesn't really get much of that flavor. Which is too bad, because the light beers tend to be on the dry side, if they were more flavorful I'd enjoy them a lot more.

Yes. Usually only when boating though. Ill start with a few NG Moon Mans and then switch to Miller or Busch Lite.

Am I wrong in thinking that ABV has nothing to do with a beer being considered light or "lite"?

I do not drink light branded beers. I also don't eat lite branded foods.

Working in the house (sanding hardwood floors) out in the yard hot summer day. You will find be drinking PBR or Old Style. Out of a bottle. Yes I know there are craft beers good for this. Say I know one over dirt flies in it. I much rather waste a PBR or old style. I like to say to my friends that give me hell for drinking them. "Sometimes I have to drink a 2 beer to appreciate an 8 beer."

If by light you mean calories then yes it does. Alcohol is the main source of calories in a beer. For a low alcohol beer to have a lot of calories it would have to have a lot of unfermented sugars. A 4.2% beer with that would be way to sweet for almost every palate. Calories to ABV correlate pretty well. It is not a perfect correlation though.

Ok, thanks for the response. I always assumed the idea behind light beers was to bring down the calories without sacrificing much else (e.g. taste, abv, etc.) Honestly when it comes to BMC none of the numbers are much different between regular and light options anyway.

Grant's used to make a good one, Celtic Ale. It has been about that long since I've drank them other than to not offend a host. Otherwise I choose to have less, thirst quenchers now: Pils, Helles, Hefe, Gose, Sours or English Milds...

I do enjoy plenty of lower ABV beers, but no need to drink light AALs for that, there are lots of other styles that taste better in my opinion when you want a couple of beers.

I don't drink daily or that many beers when I do, so I guess price and calories for me don't outweigh taste for me

Anyone who drinks a "session" beer drinks light beer.

The difference is largely marketing as craft brewers wanted to differentiate themselves from big beer.

Careful not to confuse intensity of flavor for quality of flavor. Both have their own place. Lots of folks just getting into craft are quick to dismiss kolsch, pale lager, helles etc. Its a fundamental problem but after time these self proclaimed beer geeks will come full circle to appreciate and enjoy lighter styles.

Molotov lite is the only lite beer I ever have  but I enjoy low abv styles but don't think of them as "lite"

I prefer to go with the full strength version. I buy and drink AAL's, but not typically "lite" AAL's. They're already pretty light compared to the craft options typically found within my fridge.

    Gansett Light.
Cisco Brewing Sankaty Head Light is amazing. Its somewhere in the mid3.0s ABV and can go down like seltzer, but with some flavor. Comes in cans too.
One of my favorite beers around is Molson Golden.
    Delicious.
