I am trying to get my buddy from IL some brew for xmas. He is a big stout and IPA fan mostly but likes alot of different ales, barleywines ect so It is not limited to Stouts and IPAs.

I have sent him beer for years but wondering if you guys have any suggestions for some local east coast beer I could send him that might be a little different.

    I have sent him:

    Harpoon Leviathan - all series
    Cambridge Beer Company
    Maine Beer Company
    Stowaway Beer Co
    LongTrail

I realize this is a pretty difficult question to answer but thought I'd see if you guys have any suggestions, any would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I always like to go to "Seekabrew" and see what the other person (your buddy) can't get in his area and then send him some good beers from that list. It seems like you're in a good spot to get some great beers but he also has good distribution in his area. Some good ones that come to mind are:

    Cisco
    Thomas Hooker
    Berkshire
    Stoudt's
    Weyerbacher

    I second Pando...here you go... http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/index.html
My locals are much different than yours,
if you are in RI...definitely try sending him some Ithaca Flower Power
And Weyerbacher has plenty of strong offerings.

Mystic Old Powderhouse is good if he likes barley wines. It is a wheat wine though.

Not sure what you've sent him if you've been sending it for years, but definitely Jack's Abby for their India Pale Lagers (IPA fans will love those) and Maine Beer Company for Lunch, my personal fave Zoe, Mo, and Peeper, I'd also say Pretty Things, Clown Shoes, Notch, Night Shift, and Mystic Brewing if you are in the MA area. Smuttynose, Throwback, and Whitebirch do some good beers in NH, and if you are able to go to Vermont then just drop what you are doing and go get some Heady Topper (The Alchemist) and Hill Farmstead, and some Lawson's Finest Liquors because they are 3 of the top breweries on the east coast for sure. Enlightenment Ales in Lowell has also started doing some pretty cool things like a saison IPA that is hoppy and delicious.

Ithaca Brewing Flower Power for sure, sometimes I've sent some different Troegs on trade due to some of their limited shipping areas.

    Wow, that SeekABrew distribution map is awesome....thanks for the heads up on that! So it looks like he gets only limited distribution of Dogfish Head and Victory, and no Weyerbacher or Flying Fish. All those breweries put out super solid brews and their stuff shouldn't be hard for you to find. Here are some suggestions;

Flying Fish Exit 16 wild rice DIPA. If he's an IPA fan, he'll love this.
Victory Yakima Glory black IPA, Old Horizontal barleywine (if you can still find it).
DfH 90 Minute DIPA, Olde School barleywine, Burton Baton oak-aged DIPA (one of my personal favorites), and I don't know if he's into fruit beers, but Black and Blue is a really good one, IMHO.
And as for Weyerbacher, should you be able to get your hands on some Heresy (oak-aged RIS), get it. Really good stuff. Their Double Simcoe DIPA is also super good.

    Hope that helps!

Since he's in to IPAs, you can't go wrong with NEBCo.

New England Brewing Company Gandhi-Bot and Sea Hag are excellent (Imperial IPA and American IPA). Their Imperial Stout Trooper should hit shelves later this month. I just wish fresh Gandhi-Bot would make it to RI more often.
