I do like backpocket, I've only had the core beers from exile, still need to try cherry and raspberry bohemian. I'm honestly not a fan of mill stream, but there are some solid breweries in Iowa.

I probably could, there's enough variety statewide...most of it I find overwhelmingly mediocre. Now Asheville is only about 90 minutes away, if I could include that area, I'd be alright

When you live in places like California and Oregon, you pretty much only drink local anyway.

I'd do it with an addendum that allowed for drinking local not specifically to your home base, but rather as it would relate to where you physically were. We have some travels in May, and I'd rather not drag along beer!

Would have absolutely no problem doing this. Literally have dozens, if not close to a hundred, top-notch breweries and brewpubs within a fifteen minute drive from home here in British Columbia.

Not only is most of my consumption in-state produced as it is, most of it is made within a 20-ish mile wide corridor along I-5 from the Canadian border to Olympia. And, most of that is beer from 2 counties. My addiction to Bale Breaker Field 41, however, requires me to reach across the Cascades fairly regularly.

This sounds like a good idea until you wander into a random place that has Whale x on tap and it's brewed out of state.

I wouldn't really want to test my resolve by making this kind of commitment....

Don't forget Magnify. Really solid stuff coming out of that brewery.

Carton is about 90 minutes from me and i think Kane is about an hour from me. Year round, i could live on Boat Beer, O'Dub, and Redfish

i could live on Flying Fish Redfish, so easy to find and I love it. River Horse is the closest to my house of all though, their limited releases have been good recently

Cool idea if you live in certain states. I could see myself trying it for shits and giggles in Michigan. There are a ton of breweries and most styles are represented fairly well.

However, my former state of residence--Kansas--is another story entirely. I love me some Free State and Tallgrass, but after that it drops off pretty quickly. If the fact that Kansas only has 39 beers that meet the threshold to make a "best of the state" list here on BA isn't enough to show how scarce breweries are in Kansas, maybe the distribution of those 39 beers will:

    Free State: 12 of 39 (31%)
    Tallgrass: 18 of 39 (46%)

Defiance, Flying Monkey, Blind Tiger, 23rd Street, Little Apple, Gella's Diner: 9 of 39 (23%)

There are also a couple of up-and-comers in Radius and Red Crow that I've heard good things about but not been able to sample given my new geographical location.

Yeah, I have Tree House, NebCo, Steady Habit, etc all within a 45 mile radius. Life is good.

We have a scheme to promote local breweries, called LocAle. For a brew to be featured in the scheme the brewery must lie within 30 road miles (in rural areas) or 20 miles (in urban areas) of the pub.Pump handles carry a crown:

It shows why "state" is arbitrary anyway. If you lived in Johnson County, Boulevard is certainly a local brewery, more so than Tallgrass in Manhattan. I'm in MA, but I'm less than 2 miles from RI. Our states are so small that I consider anything from New England "local".

Consider what you want local. I'm sure the idea is to drink from the breweries in your area. Many of us live in the center of our states and it's an easy way to specify local.

A nice idea, and one certain to help expand your own states "beer awareness"

My gf lives in central NJ, and I have been to Carton and Riverhorse and tried a number of other NJ beers; Cricket Hill, Forgotten Boardwalk, Ruin Duin, Flying Fish etc...all pretty solid

We are not exactly lacking in Ohio either - with the likes of Fatheads, Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, Hoppin Frog, Platform, Market Garden, BrewKettle, Columbus, Rhinegeist, Wolf Ridge, Hoof Hearted, MadTree and a shitload of others....could easily go a long time on Buckeye brewed beers...hmmmm

Dieu Du Ciel, Unibroue, Le Castor, Pit Caribou, Auval, Les trois mousquetaires, Dunham, Farnham, Troue Du Diable, Brasseurs Illimites, brasseur de montreal, benelux. Sounds like a fairly easy few weeks!

At the same time I'm 35 mins from the Ontario border and don't really feel like using an invisible line to define where I get good beer from. So well see.
