Hi all, I'm looking for some Virginia & D.C. related beer help.

I have a family member travelling to Fairfax this year & am hoping to have them bring me a bottle or two of some local craft beers, particularly ones from Virginia & DC proper but obviously don't want them wasting their trip picking me up things.

What are a couple of the most readily available beers/breweries from those areas that would be available in most Fairfax shops so that they wouldn't have to go searching too hard to find them?

    Thanks,
    fp

In Fairfax there is a Total Wine and a Whole Foods (Fair Lakes), Oakton Wine Shop isn't too far and Norms in Vienna isn't far from Fairfax either. I live in Fairfax and typically go to Total Wine, it's closest to me and it usually has better prices than the others.

As far as DC/VA beers go, you should be able to find stuff from DC Brau, Devils Backbone, Blue Mountain, Williamsburg Alewerks, Legend and Port City (I probably missed something) at all of those stores. You can check the Total Wine website for inventory if you are looking for a specific brew.

I reccomend getting some DC Brau Corruption and/or Public (it's canned so will be easier to trasnport for your family).

That for that, you've pretty much nailed it for me. I'll have a look at some of the mentioned breweries and the website then get a list ready for them leaving

Thanks a lot for your help.
    Cheers.

The Whole Foods in Fair Lakes is amazing. It is the best beer store AND the best beer bar in the area, and the in-store restaurants are awesome too.

I think there might be a Wegman's near-ish Fairfax, no?

Yeah, I should have mentioned it. There is a Wegmans in Fairfax, it has a pretty good selection, not as good as WF or TW but prices are typically better than WF. I recently noticed they have a new (to me anyway) beer display in the front of the store, left side of the store if facing from the outside, which had some stuff that wasn't in the back of the store (main beer section).

OP, i would suggest not focusing on Legend or Devil's Backbone. not to say they're entirely shitty or anything, but because they primarily brew German and English styles that someone in the UK is likely going to be able to find much better examples of at home. also, even though it's not a regional brewery, Great Divide is in the area, so they could pick up one of the various Yetis if you want a good American stout (unless Williamsburg Alewerks Cafe Royale is still on the shelves, then get that).

Almost everything Ommegang is also very accessible to the DC/NoVA area too if you want to try some Belgian-style American Beers. I do reccomend Devil's Backbone Dark Abbey though. Very good Belgian-style Dubbel.

This might be bit out of range for Fairfax but how about Lost Dog Cafe (http://lostdogcafe.com/arlington/) in Arlington? Great grubs and nice selection of craft beers. Bit pricey but it's Northern Virginia for you. Was there last weekend and noticed that they had plenty of Evil Twin Biscotti Break bottles, just sitting on the shelf.

Thanks for the info folks,I'll suggest some DC Brau then and maybe some Blue Mountain as well. I'll probably pass on the out of state beers so I'm not asking to much although I agree, Great Divide do a nice beer. I'm occasionally able to get hold of some of their beers here from time to time.

    Cheers
