    Hi All,

A neighbor of mine is sending a buddy that lives about an hour out of Austin, TX a box off beer (including some bourbon county stuff - guess he has some burning a hole in his pocket). He is looking for solid offerings in return that the guy can buy off the shelf. My neighbor hates hops and sours. He is big fan of huge stouts and barrel aged stouts and similar. Let me know what he can ask for.

    Cheers,
    oach

The one thing that they Austin market is missing is a brewery that puts out solid stouts and barrel aged stouts. Most of the stuff on the shelf in that area is not from the local area. Granted, if there was stuff from the local area (like 512 whiskey barrel aged double pecan porter) it sells out in a couple of days.

What I am trying to say is that you won't find much local stuff like that at stores. Austin has a lot of breweries that put out solid things but a lot of them are in the sour area (Jester King) or IPAs (Hops and Grain/Austin Beerworks).

If he's an hour south of Austin, he might get some Karbach. Texas doesn't have much in the way of big stouts that Illinois already doesn't get.

Here are some ideas though, mostly local:

    Independence Convict Hill (oatmeal stout)
    Independence Jasperilla (old ale)
    Guadalupe Scotch ale
    growler of 512 Pecan Porter
growler of 512 Double Pecan Porter (if it's still around; bottles are pretty much all gone and he might have to drive an hour into town to get it)
growlers of anything Live Oak makes (various German styles, availability depends on season -- if he likes smoked beer, their Weisser Rauch is pretty tasty)
Prairie Bible Belt or Bomb - this might be a shelf beer depending on where he is, but don't count on it

Yeah this has been bothering me for a while now. Anyone know of any breweries in the works that might fill this void of local stouts?
