Does anyone in the Chicago land area know what is going on with the individual Binny store twitter accounts? They seem to be dropping like flies. It is nice to see what is going on at your local stores without having to stop in or call everyday.

Does anyone know what is happening?
    Thanks

Why don't you contact Binny's? I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you

Management wants to control the PR, simple. Probably not the best policy for the beer world, or any really. This has been the push for months

I feel bad for the people working the phones. Now they are just going to get bombarded with phone calls finding out if something is in.

Very sad. I don't frequent Binnys since I live in MI but a beer store with an active social media account is pretty much the best thing ever (except for my wallet)

My local store posts up all their new stuff and there is no doubt it gets customers in the store. Plain and simple.

I do know the Plainfield beer person had to shut down their twitter last month after an exchange with the follower below. Plainfield has since deleted their account but they sent out a tweet that day that Radiolaria arrived at the store, then this person goes off. And then eventually whines to the corporate twitter as seen below as well.

I remember Binny's Grand a couple months ago had received some tweets from people being pissed off about an accidental mix up regarding BA Abduction (I recall it was Beth's off day) and people exploded about it on twitter. I don't know if that incident is necessarily tied to Binny's Grand shutting their twitter down today. But what I can almost guarantee is that beer chasers are behind these changes. These chasers miss out on a beer tweet or some accidental mix up like the Grand example & they go off and likely follow up complaining to corporate. They are way too many people who take chasing beer way too seriously. Look at Exhibit A below. The Chicago craft beer scene keeps drawing in all sorts of losers & now everyone has to pay with their idiocy.

I talked to the head beer buyer at one of the suburban Binny's about 4 weeks ago, and they all were summoned to a meeting at corporate to discuss, among other things, releasing information on Twitter. There were really 2 things at play: (1) people were complaining that with the tweets about releases, the same people were getting all the whales within about 20 minutes of the tweets, leaving nothing left over for other customers, and (2) people were going overboard harassing the employees, and some were threatening them. It got pretty despicable. It looks like they finally decided to pull the plug.

I expected this to happen. Think about this- does the TV guy in your big box chain electronics store down the street tweet whenever they get in a new set? At some point, a retail store brand gets too large to allow random individuals the freedom to "wing it". Notice also that Binnys store beer tweets rarely mentioned "Binny's". The Twitter accounts are/were individual's personal ones. That was all voluntary; no employee got paid to tweet about the latest sour.

Now, that's done. And yes, if you wish to call every day, or stop in every day, I suppose you'll have to do that. Or how about this: patronize a mom and pop store that does tweet. Encourage your local to bring in local stuff. Help them out by offering to set up a twitter account for them while in the store, and give them the keys. It takes two minutes.

So, now it will be... what, a different 12 people getting all the hyped releases? It's not like the old days where people shared sightings on forums. So, it will likely be a small group getting releases who are either in the with the beer manager, have a good network on speed dial, or both.

As far as mom and pop shops go... are these the same M&P's charging twice Binny's price on every shelf whale? Because that's a big tall glass of nope.

Its because of people complaining when limited tweeted beers sold out before they could get one.

I just dont understand why the following is not evey single persons response when they miss out on a beer. "Shoot, thanks for your help, hopefully I can snag the next one" IF everyone just calmed the hell down stores could still tweet.

If you shop at your local store or Binnys you should already know when they get stuff. Without twitter, things will be easier to obtain I would think.

I get what you're saying. I just have had bad experiences with mom and pops that I don't have with Binny's.

And, honestly, more of my booze money has been going to liquor as of late...
