Wow, that is some self-entitled BS. Be glad you have a job that allows you regular daytime working hours. If the majority of their customers work during release hours, then the majority of people are in the same boat as you, and you think that in the whole city, the only people who ever get special release bottles are people who work night shifts? Shoot man, they deserve a little extra joy in their life - night shifts suck. Just the other day, I heard about a bottle shop getting a case of a limited release that surely would have been gone by the time I was off work - not once did I say, "Man, I wish I worked shittier hours so I could buy a beer!" This is like being pissed off about banks and DMVs having business hours - you can either make it or you can't or you just wait to get lucky.

Sounds weird but I like when places post even though I have a 9-5. Personally I keep a close eye on the social media accounts that post daily to see what hit the area and simply go to other places after work to pick up the limited releases and daily drinkers. I say let those shops have the People that only buy their limited stuff every week. There are always shops that only sell the limited stuff to people that frequent the establishment and in reality I rather spend my money there.

I mean, well...just because a person doesn't work 9-5 doesn't mean they don't work and that they're "spending mommy and daddy's" money when they buy beer during the time that you personally are working. I worked for myself for 2 years and have 5 or more good bottle shops in a 5 minute radius of me. It was very easy for me to take an hour (or even half-hour break) and hit a bunch of stores quickly if I knew things were coming out that I wanted.

Several solutions to the OP's problem that will not get you arrested or sued:
    1. Buy your own bottle shop so you can do whatever the f@#$ you please.
    2. Engage in conversation with the owner, manager, or stock person and ask if they will hold something for you until you are out of work.
    3. If possible, take a long lunch break or sneak out for a few hours.
    4. Suck it up and be glad you have a job.
    5. Quit your day job.
    6. Find another bottle shop.

Honestly, it does kind of mess with me. I just feel anxious all day that I'll miss a bottle. I prefer it when they don't post at all, and so then my frequent biweekly visits yield some surprises, and people don't know to come pick it up.

I don't get worked up about releases or rare beer anymore. I'll have it someday and there's plenty of great beer available all the time.

I also think for these big limited beers, they could create more hype/buzz for the shop by holding the beer until that weekend and hosting some type of release, raffle or just a specific time for the bottle to be sold. That way people have a chance to obtain if they are willing to put in the time and effort.

Imagine how pissed people would be if they held DLD, bourbon county, Morning Delight ext...on a Wednesday at 2:30

You would at least have a heads up, in order to send a Friend, family member or mule to get it for you.
Again, I know there is no perfect solution just discussion

I post things ASAP (does us no good sitting on the shelves) but I reserve 1 bottle of each super limited release that in my opinion is something people will be hunting for but have no luck. Once every quarter I hold a big in store tasting with all of the bottles that I’ve held onto and I advertise the hell out of this tasting for weeks in advance to make sure people have the opportunity to make arrangements to be present. We also throw things like heady topper, tree house, hill etc… into the mix to bring in more people. Everyone gets to try super rare beers and we gain great exposure, it’s a win win.

Shops are always going to post, they want to draw in business and know posting the shiny new limited bottle will bring people in even though people know they have very little chance of obtaining said bottle. People are irrational and easily manipulated, while a person is logical and calm.

A good example is this weekend. Goose island posted there will be a chance to" purchase Rare at the taproom, details at the event". The line was 100 deep at open. They only had 9 bottles to raffle, meanwhile all across Chicago BCBS variants were on tap with no lines filled with individuals making rational decisions while at the same time people gather like lemming for a chance to buy a $60 pint of mediocre beer just because its “Rare Bro”. Sadly Craft Beer has morphed into a Pokemon type card game from the original scene of good beer with good people. Shops know that and you really can’t blame them for taking advantage of it.

That annoys you? I WISH some of my local shops would keep up on that. Especially given that a few of them are a bit out of the way and I'm lazy.

What was the question? A store can do damned well what it wants, and when, and if one doesn't like their business practices, they can march on down the road and get pissed about another thing or two elsewhere. Good beer is everywhere and available everyday.

I'm really happy that they do this. I prefer to go in the morning or early afternoon before everything gets busy, much easier that way.
