It may be a bit more than a year , but I know of 3 in some form of formation just from our brew club.

Now are we talking about breweries in general? Or breweries that I actually enjoy?

That said, there are probably around 7-8 within an hour of me, but only 2 that I really enjoy.

Ashville is about an hour and a half away from me, so I didn't count any of their breweries

Lincoln County, Maine - Oxbow, Marshall Wharf, MBC, Andrew's, Boothbay, Lively, Gritty McDuff's and the Liberal Cup are within an hour from me (some just barely) so I unless I'm forgetting one we're at eight within a hour radius.

I'm not aware of any scheduled openings in 2015 within that radius

Living in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, there are only two commercial breweries (not counting the labatt brewery) with an additional brewery that has a taproom only.

18 breweries within a 40-45 minute drive for me. Go Pittsburgh!

Edit: I can't keep up with how many are opening soon. It is certainly at least 5; possibly more than 8. You never know with some folk. Also, forgot another local one, so that makes 18. (It deserves to be forgotten.)

There are probably about 8 to 10 breweries in my local area, but only two or three with any impact...the rest are barely past infancy. Three or four more are scheduled to open in the next year, but I am not sure what the market can bear. I live in Ottawa Canada, about a Million people. Craft is a few years behind in these parts.

I live in Chambersburg, PA. Roy Pitz is just a few blocks away from me. I have to go up the road a ways to get to Appalachian Brewing and Troegs. Lancaster Brewing is also about an hour away. Victory is about an hour and a half drive, so I didn't include it on the survey.

In a year that spans the last few months, through the end of 2015, the new breweries are in the 8 range. Some don't have their own beers yet (guest taps), or they only do like 1 or 2 at a time at the moment, etc. so it's hard to judge by criteria.

Oh, and I forgot Battlefield Brew Works in Gettysburg. Maybe I should think about this some more and readjust my polling...

So far I am pretty surprised to note almost half of responders have ten or more breweries within an hour of them! I think as recently as five years ago that number would have been much, much fewer.

Let's see how it goes as more folks from midwest and far west respond.

Seattle has a lot of breweries...esp when including everything w/in an hour! Not sure what the number is but I would guess 30 or more...

Well, cavedave, you kinda screwed me on this one with that one hour radius stipulation, because where I live has to take into account parts of Maryland and West Virginia too, so I guess my numbers are way off. Antietam Brewery is down the road in MD, and I am sure there are a bunch in Frederick. Flying Dog immediately comes to mind. So, yeah, lots of breweries relatively close to me. But if you make it a 30 minute radius, the window on local breweries closes really fast.

I know of about 11 breweries in the Cincinnati area, not counting the Sam Adams location here, one of which is used by more than one brewer (Listermann / Triple Digit).

Out of those I've had a chance to try, I enjoy at least one offering from about 3 of them, with thus far only one that can produce anything non-hop-oriented that is good on a consistent basis (Triple Digit, which unfortunately nearly describes their pricing). Hop fans from Cincy will doubtless disagree, as I hear praise for Rhinegeist and MadTree fairly often, and their beers are literally in every gas station and grocery store around.

(This area also had a fairly recent thread complaining about the local beer scene, so further details can be found there.)

Champaign-Urbana, IL. We have 4 breweries in the county: Bind Pig Brewpub, Triptych, JT Walkers and Distihl. I don't know of any plans for any new ones, but I wouldn't be surprised. All 4 of our breweries have popped up in the last 5 years.

Here in Asheville, there are 11 breweries within 15 minutes of me. If you count Oskar Blues and Sierra Nevada, there are 10 more within an hour radius of me. I've only heard of one or two new breweries opening up this year but, of course, there could be more I'm unaware of. They're poppin' up like weeds 'round here.

I live in Northern Burlington County, NJ, near Bordentown. I had to change my answer twice - finally did a Google map search and it seems I have far more breweries within an hour's drive than I realized - more than ten. Kane & Carton are just over one hour, but since they're so good I included them. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any new breweries scheduled to open. Some excellent choices: Neshaminy, River Horse, Yard's, Victory, Tired Hands, Flying Fish.
