Just north of L.A., Calif...7-10 within an hour and several (1-4) opening up this year. Remember though, in Cali, "one hour" may only be twenty miles depending on traffic. If I said thirty or forty miles, I could include five or six more breweries.

I was surprised myself when I done counting. Close to an even split between brewpubs and production breweries also.

North Philly Burbs. I'm trying to use Beermapping.com to figure out how many breweries/brew pubs are within 25 and 50 miles of me, but the site is running slow.

I'm in Salt Lake City. I can only come up with 6. If I was back home in WI...well I think I will get lost with numbers.

I live in a geographically large county with a population of less than 90,000, and a town of 40,000, and yet I can think of at least eight breweries within an hour or me (and only one of them is shitty!). All things considered, I feel pretty damn lucky.

The Blind Pig Brewpub is easily my favorite. The brewmaster gets to create whatever he wants and it is almost always fantastic regardless of style. He's a really nice guy to boot, always willing to discuss brewing science and help homebrewers fix problems.

What I've had from Triptych is really good too. I need to head to their tasting room soon to try what they have now.

Twin Cities, Minnesota: There are around at least 60 open now within an hour of the middle of the metro area, all but a few of which have commercial taprooms or are brewpubs, plus 14 as of this writing that I expect to open in the next year. I believe around 40 have opened in the last three years or so.

Why is there no option for 50 breweries within an hour of me?

Ugh. That's a weird one to answer for me. We have 3 here that wouldn't be defined as brewpubs by anyone. More like restaurants and oh by the way, we brew our own in house beer. At the biggest of these restaurants, they sell bottles of bud and mixed drinks. If you walk in one of their restaurants you will see a lot of people consuming bottled adjunct lagers or mixed drinks instead of the house brew.

We have one stand-alone brewery, but they don't can or bottle. One of the micro breweries in one of the restaurants has packaged one style of their newest release in a bomber for sale in liquor stores. So, out of four breweries, we are able to go and buy literally one beer from one brewery in package form from a store.

Besides the one stand-alone brewery that doesn't package, I wouldn't consider any of the others traditional breweries like I've seen in any other town. These places are really restaurant forward.

Central Oregon Coast. Despite being Oregon, the coast is a barren wasteland compared to the central valley (I 5 corridor) and Portland (3hrs away) Close by there is of course Rogue and Newport Brewing then a half mile north is Rusty Truck and a McMinnemans then East you can just barely make it to Corvallis for Block15, Flattail and Skyhigh in an hour.

100+ breweries within an hour - and who knows how many are set to open. My guess is 15 to 20.
