But Sixpoint doesn't have a tap room last time I checked. And Brooklyn brewery is a madhouse with tourists.
Check out SingleCut in Astoria, Barrier in Oceanside, Other Half in Gowanus. Really great breweries with great tap rooms.

 

Not going to count Granite City or BJ's locations, so, I think 5-6 and 1-4 (at least 3) in planning for Wichita and the surrounding area.

I counted up to the OP's minimum of 10 breweries in about 10 seconds and then stopped, but yeah we have our share of breweries here. Not in Somerset but in western Union County so you should be about the same as me. About 13 just in NJ and maybe a few more in NYC, downstate NY and eastern PA. (depending on traffic)

 

Being in Central Maryland I can get to Baltimore, DC, Frederick and Columbia in an hour. Just the MD breweries I can get to in an hour is 18 including brewpubs.

I'm pretty sure 8 opened since you posted this yesterday, it's a little nutty around here.

 

So yeah, down in Frederick County MD we have Flying Dog, Brewers Alley and Barley and Hops. All 3 of those have been around for at least 10-20 years. Monocacy Brewing, Frey's & Milkhouse Farm Brewery opened up within the last 2-3 years I think. Just a few months ago Red Shedman openned up just a few miles from Frey's and Milkhouse (3 breweries all on farms close by in eastern Frederick Co). I really don't know what is on the horizon though for new breweries forthcoming in our area. Where is best source to find this info? I've heard gossip about a couple more farm breweries possibly.

 

I answered 3-4 with the caveat that I almost certainly don't know about all the breweries set to open in the Los Angeles/OrangeCounty/Ventura area in the next year. I do know about 4 for sure, though.

 

What is best source to gather intel on breweries opening soon? Is there a website with business permits or something? Or word of mouth in beer nerd community? Just wondering.

 

San Diego. I have 100+ within an hour. Don't know how many are opening this year.

According to Beermapping, there are 50 existing breweries and brew pubs within a 50 mile radius of me in Suffolk County, NY (not counting multiple locations for some brew pubs). Of course many of those are not actually within an hour's drive time or via mass transit, even those in NYC. Quite a few are in NJ & CT.
Have had only a handful of brews from the lot of them (rarely go to bars, don't buy growlers), so I can't really pass judgement on any yet.
No idea how many are in the works.

 

Haha that was almost as half-assed as the answer I would have given.

 

I can count 7 off the top of my head, but there may be more and there are certainly many many more right around one hour or so from here. I live in a city in the northern part of Italy.

 

Definitely 10+, even if I were to say only within my State borders, which only a few years ago would not have been true.
