I know how big Yuengling is here in the northeast; Genny in upstate NY; Narragansett in New England (though a quick search revealed to me that this is not really so popular anymore); Shiner in Texas; Natty Boh in Baltimore. Someone at work yesterday told me about Iron City Beer being a Pittsburg classic.

Got me kind of interested in what other beers have strong regional connections – beers that are probably not the the best being produced there, but whose consumption is mostly contained to the region around the brewery and have fairly wide appeal there.

I am sick of all the Sam Adams in New England! there are so many better options out there. Its every bud light drinkers favorite "craft" beer

@Sneers answered for me. I grew up in NY and Genesse CA and Utica Club were go-to regional American beers. Living in Connecticut I see a lot of Narragansett on tap, which, like Genny, is brewed in Rochester. In CT I do see a strong presence of Two Roads which seems to sell. But Sea Hag seems to be the pride of the area. Too bad NEBCO doesn't have any presence on the shelves.

Already mentioned but I have never lived in an area where there is a stronger connection between a beer and the local community than Yuengling and Philly. Ask for a lager, you get Yuengling. Not sure why, but one of my favorite memories from living there.

SingleCut outta Queens and Other Half outta Brooklyn are getting a lot of attention lately. Haven't had anything from OH, but the SingleCut products I've had are great...

I think Griffin Claw is probably one of the go-to in Metro Detroit. Although I'm not sure if that qualifies as "regional."

This stuff is on every grocery store's shelf in the area, and from what local store owners tell me, sells fairly well.

Devil's Backbone definitely seems to have a pretty wide appeal in and around Lexington, VA. You can find their beer in any grocery store or even the tiniest random gas station stores around here, Wal-Mart stocks both 6 and 12 packs of the two year-round flagship beers and 6-packs of quite a few others (which is not something they do for a lot of craft breweries -- sometimes it's just 6-packs of one beer, just 12-packs of another, another nowhere to be found even if you can get it in a lot of other nearby stores -- so Devil's Backbone must be a fairly big seller here), if a local restaurant has more than one beer on tap to begin with chances are good that one of them will be Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager (and sometimes their Eight Point IPA too), the taproom up at the brewery seems to almost always have people up there hanging out and drinking beer and ordering pizza (I'd know, I work at a Papa John's and we get delivery orders going up there all the time!), and plenty of people seem to drink and enjoy their beer at least on occasion even if their "regular" beer is something more along the lines of Busch or Keystone or Coors Light. I'm aware of at least a few people who've suddenly found that they really like unusual styles like Belgian IPAs or maibocks or schwarzbiers a lot more than their usual go-to beer thanks to ordering a flight from their taproom, after having previously had mostly "macro" beers their entire lives.

It probably helps that they make some pretty good beer, at least in my opinion.

In St. Louis, Schlafly is pretty strongly in the local drinkers' mind... along with that other brewery downtown.

Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, Fiddlehead, Switchback...But Magic Hat is highly produced here and locals don't drink it. It's ok but there are far better beers produced here. Such as the ones i mentioned above..

I live on the NH/VT border and the most commonly ordered beer (not by me) is Switchback. It is on tap everywhere and both tourists and locals seen to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. I do not care for it one bit, but they do make a pretty good Citra-pils. I have had people request it as an add-on to HT trades in the past as well.

It really is a boring beer. Marketing, distribution, and hype. That's all I taste.

Both Avondale & Good People offer some fine brews in the B'ham area. I can always go for a Spring Street Saison or Pachyderm a pale Wheat from Avondale or from Good People a Bearded Lady or Pale Ale.

Central Waters is always producing great stuff. Three Floyds shelf beers always sell. But Lakefront Brewery is a MKE fav, mainly due to marketing. Personally, Karben4 is producing the best beer in WI.

There was a time in Williamsburg when ordering a lager was of course only a Brooklyn lager.
