Hey guys, I have a friend that is in Minn right now and is willing to bring back some beers to Hawaii. What are some local local breweries (besides surly and that can/bottle) that are worth grabbing? Thank you in advance! Ryan
whats your choice style of beers? secondly, where in MN are they going to be located? some MN brews have limited areas of distribution.
ipa's, stouts, barleywines....but honestly I love trying everything. And I believe she is in Minneapolis.
If you like coffee, have her get some Bent Paddle Cold Press. If you can convince her to go to Steel Toe (Wednesday - Saturday), they still have some Lunker. I would also have her get some Steel Toe Size 7, bombers are available in select liqour stores near the brewery. Indeed Day Tripper and Let it Ride are goods and Double Day Tripper should be out this week.
Fair State Pahlay'Ahlay Surly Todd the Axe Man Bent Paddle Cold Press not MN beers, but don't believe they see HI distribution.. Central Waters Brewers Reserve Stout Boulevard Smokestack Series Coffee X Imperial Stout
Minnesota boasts a wealth of some really great brews. Honestly, there are so many great choices here. A few that I would recommend that your friend will not have any problems finding are: Bent Paddle: Cold Press and/or Lollygager Indeed: Dandy Lager Fulton: War and Peace Surly: Todd the Axeman or Furious Brau Brothers: Moo Joos Cheers!
If you like sours, have her check for the Schell's Noble Star series, the Starkeller Peach may be hard to find, but North Country Brunette, Dawn of Aurora and Cypress Blanc should be easy to find.
Schell's Hefeweisen is a great summer release. Don't forget Lift Bridge - one of MN's best and very reasonably priced. Try Farm Girl and/or Hop Dish.
My 2 cents on a few of those mentioned: I endorse Bent Paddle Cold Press. Excellent. Fair State Pahlay'Ahlay is the local example of the new wave in pale ales. It is very much hops aroma driven; not much malt backbone. It is very well done, though. I took a peek at your beer reviews. I think you will like this one. Sorry, but I can't recommend Brau Brothers Moo Joos. Thin, flat, bland. It is just not very good. JMO, of course.
