My supervisor is based out of Houston and comes up to Ohio about once a month. I keep forgetting to have him bring me some TX beers. He's leaving late Sunday, so I need ideas of what/where he can get great TX beers. He's in Houston, east of Houston I believe.

I know Jester King, but that's about it. Any help?

BTW, He does enjoy craft beer. Originally from San Diego and LOVES Stone, so no issues there!

You should work it out to use him as a trade mule. I'm not in Houston but I'm sure that someone on here would love to load him up with brews to take up there in return for you loading him up with brews to bring back.

I like about everything, so spit some names and i'll pass it along.

Trade mule might be a bit much atm. I'll have a talk when he gets in town.

No freetail, it is a brewpub in san antonio, nowhere near Houston.
Tell him to go to specs or d&q is the best. Local: karbach, st Arnold. That's about it, I think, in Houston. Texas beers, independence, Jk, rahr, ranger creek, newer Austin Belgian brewer whose name I can't remember, um... think that's about it for cans/bottles...

Have him hit up Brandon at D&Q Bottle Shop in Montrose just west of downtown. Shoot, I'm sure you can call Brandon and have him set aside beers for your buddy to pick up and bring back to you. He rolls like that.

The Houstonites gave me tons of great spots. Then again they were very specific parts of Houston referenced. I found Karbach to be amazing and it can only be found in Houston AND they come in cans (just perfect for travel). Have him pick up their Hefe if possible and their Rodeo Clown is a big IPA/Barley Wine worth having (similar to SN's Bigfoot).

Everyone else pretty much hit the other regional fav's and as mentioned above seekabrew will give you a better idea of national brands that distro here that skip your area.

Really it's a slippery slope when you start having to pay attention to releases in multiple markets but if you want to nab some of the more limited releases (of JK or Deschutes for example) you might have to coordinate a trade with a local Houston BA to obtain them, otherwise get really lucky to find them on the shelves.

if you're looking for widely available houston beers, go with st. arnolds endeavour, karbach weisse versa, karbach rodeo clown. other than the endeavour, the rest of the st. arnolds lineup is pretty marginal.

these should be in most stores he would happen to find himself in (even grocery stores like HEB), and they're all pretty solid.

from there, the JKs suggested, and agreed about asking the dude at D&Q.

I would highly recommend Real Ale Sisyphus. It's a barley wine type and it is absolutely delicious. Grab more than one cause it ages extremely well too.

    Southern Star?

Also Hops & Grain and South Austin Brewing, but finding them in Houston will be problematic.
