Hello all this had been bugging me for some time now, but is is improper to rate or log beer from a few weeks back? I'm not really a tick hunter but the ones I'm referring to were damn good and I wish I've documented them! I remember these brews clear as day, took pics as well, and even saved the bottles and or cans! Just wanted to pick anyone's brain that is willing to listen.

    Cheers Jeremy

Gray area. A few weeks back and you have notes or remember how you felt? Go for it. Couple months ago, don't remember details? Eh, wait for another chance.

Do it. It's just a record of what you've had. You had the beer, count the tick.

This includes ratings/review right? Because if not, then no, not improper, not a gray area.

Log whatever you want, it's your log. No set rules, do what feels appropriate.

Personally, I only rate beers that I am drinking.

Fighting bias is hard enough, when you are doing a non-blind tasting. Doing it from memory, bias has the upper hand.

What's the purpose of writing your reviews? Is it a reminder to yourself of what you have had and how you felt about it? Or is it more a public service for other people to gain context as to whether or not they should purchase a beer? For me its the second and that's why I only review beers live as I am drinking them. Therefore this severely curtails the number of reviews I do, but I think its the only way to give a thorough and fair review of the beer. This is after all a public website that may affect a consumers decision. Beer reviews have certainly played a role in my purchasing patterns, which is why I despise seeing reviews from the BROS with only number scores. This website does effect whether or not some people buy a product, and I think a simple number review without an actual description of the beer does a serious disservice to those consumers who look at the BA/BROS scores as a barometer for quality.

I pretty much remember if I have had a beer before and whether or not I found it enjoyable. I may not remember every little thing about it, but to me that doesnt really matter. I used to take a picture of each beer I had with the bottle (excluding drafts) but I even deleted all of those since I rarely looked at them and again I pretty much remember if I have had a beer before. Don't need a bunch of beer pics, or stub reviews, lists of hads. At certain point it becomes such a dick measuring contest. Oh how many of these whales have you had? Who cares! Drink and be merry!

All that being said I agree with @sharpski, there are no rules here when it comes to this. Do what floats your boat.

I have no issues logging old checkins. It keeps track of what I liked and didn't. Bias has no part. If I lie to myself I only go back and drink a beer I didn't like as much as I thought I did or avoid a beer I really liked. What sense would that make.

It's the reason I haven't moved my 882 ticks here. It's not fair that I play make believe time to turn " Would drink again if offered for free" to an honest review. I know brewers look at both Untappd and BA for feedback, and filling out a bunch of reviews that don't offer anything other than a number doesn't help anyone.

I wouldn't do it. I take notes as I am drinking the beer and usually take a picture. When I write the review I use my notes. If my notes are crap, then I get another bottle of the beer and drink it again.

I will "tick" a beer from a tasting assuming a decent enough pour (4 ounces), but won't write a review.

I do post reviews from notes as I usually write down tasting notes on a new beer whether I am sitting logged into BA or not.

I guess what I should do with the tasting ticks is write a review that is under the character limit so it doesn't count at all (if I understand how it works correctly).

Based on a recent announcement, it does seem that under the character limit actually does count these days, but it is not given the same full weight in affecting the overall score as a review. However, the weight it is given is remaining confidential.

Tough call, really. The only time I log anything "old" is when I have a review from tasting notes that I never got around to uploading to the site. I always jot up a review on the spot as I'm trying a new beer, but don't always have the time to get those reviews posted on the same evening, especially if I'm not having said beer from the comfort of my living room.

I don't add beers from memory or past experiences. At least 90% of reviews are live, the balance from detailed notes. I don't review from samples of flights - not enough beer to make a realistic evaluation over warming times and those at the end of a flight have often lost any existing head. So no, either drink while on line and add a nearly instantaneous review or take copious notes and add within a day or so.

I'll tick it, but not review it. It has to have been within a week or so though. I can easily remember if I liked the beer or not, however the details that go into a review are too fuzzy to be useful.
