Recently received a few bottles of Yellow Rose in trade and can't seem to find a bottled on/best before/julian code anywhere. Tastes great and I have no complaints, but I'm just curious if I'm blind or if Lone Pint doesn't mark their bottles.

I thought they started marking them recently?

No. One store in Houston (D&Q) manually dates all bottles they receive on the day they receive them so customers know how long they've been in the store (not that it matters, they sell out in a day or two anyway).

Good to know. I find it crazy they still aren't then.

Thanks for the info everyone. I agree, hopefully they start marking them soon.

    Cheers!

The last few times I was in, Brandon was only dating one bottle (on the counter). Since he gets regular shipments, he keeps mental track of when they arrive.

The bottles I picked up on the floor last week were dated 1/20, but it goes fast enough that it makes sense he could remember what date they came in too.

    Lone Pint bottles every Monday.

Most places sell out by Wednesday.

So I'd recommend asking your trade partner if he picked it up at a store that sells out frequently and what day he picked it up. Then you can figure out pretty easily the date.

Lots of talk on YR in Houston about bottle dating and QC issues. @nathanmiller is right on point. Even then though some bottles could have been stored in warehouse and "fresh" to the retailer. However, we're fortunate so far that they're selling out so quick.

Yet, I keep running into malty "fresh" YR. Don't know if its QC or old bottles. Not cool. But I look at it this way...they're going to earn more $ not bottle dating. I wouldn't buy a month old bottle of YR. I'm more likely to take a chance on my beer lady/guy's hey we got fresh YR in although it causes great frustration to find out its an old bottle.

I doubt they would make more money by not bottle dating it. At this point, people will buy it regardless just by the name alone. Most people are not as into beer as the people on BA and do not even check dates on IPAs before they buy them.

Exactly, majority of people will not care about bottle dating or even look. So that group stays the same. There's a lot more beer nerds that care about bottle dating than one may think. Us beer nerds are likely to buy non-bottle dated, recently delivered YR hoping its fresh over bottle dated shelfies gone old.

But the point is, all the old ones will still be picked up by others. So, everything will still get sold.

Hah, nah. Go to my HEB. Its a brand new one with a kick ass beer selection yet still got Karbachtoberfest and FW Oaktoberfest and 7/14 Double Jack hanging around. But its true, YR would be sold quickly anyway! Touche!

Honestly, I wouldn't care really at all about the bottling dates on YR (implied freshness) if it weren't for the butter (diacetyl?) taste issue that I've had in some older bottles.

It would be really nice if they did date them. I traded for one that was supposedly "pretty fresh" and like philhyde said... definitely got a buttery thing going that I really didn't like and certainly as far as mosaic aroma and taste I didn't get a ton. Was quite the disappointment. I'd like to assume it was an old bottle, but I'm not taking a chance with it again and no dates means it gets rated as it tasted without regard to freshness.

That's not how Lone Pints wants to attack the beer scene right now though. Is the fresh IPA dogma really beer knerd only? Or is the beer knerd crowd growing ridiculously fast? When the next big IPA hits (or the next 5), what of Yellow Rose then?

Either way Lone Pint needs to date their beers. Or at least their IPAs.
