Hey guys. Heading to Jones Beach on Long Island for the air show this weekend. Looking for recommendations for dinner Friday night. We are staying near Republic airport...some where relatively close by with great beer and bar food would be awesome. Thanks in advance!!

Either go to The Good Life in Massapequa or Republic in Farmingdale. The Good Life is probably the better of the two but Republic is solid. They're both very close too. You could do The Good Life and if you want an after dinner spot, The Tap Room is right across the street. Croxley's Ales is across from Republic, they always have a big, good tap list, but I feel that place has dropped off a bit. They're all on beermenus, pretty updated too, so if you're looking for anything specific, check that site.

Massapequa Taproom is right across the street from The Good Life as well..and Ciao Baby on Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa Park usually has a good tap list and the food is good with generous portions

+1 to the Good Life...haven't been there in a while since moving but almost always a great tap list and the food is well above average for typical bar food IMO

You can also hit up EAT gastropub in oceanside which is close to Jones beach. They have 22 rotating taps and their bar food is insane. Get the Philly cheese steak egg rolls if you go.

I was thinking of taking my family fishing on Point Lookout this Sunday. Maybe I should avoid the Meadowbrook Pkwy?

Also want to stop at Barrier on the way back to Queens.

If you are looking for some great beer, try to stop by Barrage Brewing which is on Allen Blvd in Farmingdale. Just a few minutes from Republic Airport. They are usually open on Fridays from around 4:30-8:30.

"Close to Jones Beach" equates to about an hour on MDW. It's a good twenty five minutes without traffic.

Anyone driving anywhere near Jones Beach/Long Beach this weekend, definitely be ready for delays. The Airshow always packs em in. If you're not out of your house by 8-8:30am, I wouldn't bother going near the beaches. This goes for out east by the Causeway too, for that matter.
Echoing @abkayak post, basically. Shit, the boat traffic out on the Bay is pretty bad.

I've been an airshow fan for years and the name of the game is get there early and leave late. They have a great one planned this year...really looking forward to watching the Blue Angels with my toes in the sand and a can of sixpoint in my hand.

Love the Airshow. My father in law has an aquasport, we go to Zach's Bay every year. Fucking amazing.

Not if you get on the Loop parkway which is right at the end of the Meadowbrook pkwy and go north on Long Beach road. But yes it would take about 30 mins regardless

If you don't mind a half hour drive you could take a trip out to Great South Bay Brewery. Good spot!

Also right on Sunrise Highway (rt 27) is Effin Gruven. Great craft beer bar and one of my favorite bars ever. Only 11 minutes from Jones Beach

I'm coming down to East Meadow on Saturday. Will traffic be miserable around 9-10 am?

For beer, is Von Trapp stuff readily available?

You should definitely go earlier. Its going to be backed up on the parkways and the parking lots fill up real early

Sunday is usually the worse of the two days. I'm assuming you're going to the Airshow, so, before 9am would be preferable. As far as the Von Trapp, I've never seen that around here.
