As the title suggests, I am wondering if Long Trail dates their bottles based on the born on date or the best by date. I just picked up a 6 pack of Limbo in Rhode Island that was labeled 4/17/14, and the first beer I opened was absolutely terrible. I am asking because I had a 6 pack of Limbo last week back in NY that was dated sometime in March of 2014, and I could not detect any noticeable drop off of this beer.

I am wondering if this shipment was poorly cared for. I am not one usually to complain about freshness of beers, and usually condemn others on this site when they go all crazy about freshness dates. But damn, this beer is almost undrinkable. Totally skunk.

As the above confirms, it's definitely bottled on dates for Long Trail. I'm living in LA now, but very familiar w/RI and the stores there. May I ask where you picked this up?

To echo in on the already answered question, I can confirm its born on dating

i just picked up a case from 4/23/14 at work tonight, and yours musta got very mishandled.

This beer doesnt have a super over top hop explosion going on but im thinking thats just how it is. drinking lots of dirtwolf lately probably throws that off. But definitely no skunk at all, and its much less bitter than other IPAs can be, so maybe its mostly dry hopped. Not a hops falling off thing, but something probably went wrong with yours.

Mine is still very drinkable, sorry you got bad luck on yours.

So you guys realize that "born on" is a term specific to Anheuser-Busch right?
