Was just at the brewery last week - they had pretty slim pickings overall but what struck me as odd was that what they had was the "last of the Limbo". It was dated 1/2/18. I didn't think much of it at the time, but it occurred to me later that maybe they are killing it off to make room for VT IPA. They also had no space juice either. just some good ol' fashioned speculation for what it's worth.
Regarding Space Juice - isn't Otter Creek brewing the recipe for that under their new Head Charge DIPA?
There's another thread in the Releases Forum talking about Otter Creek (a Long Trail subsidiary) re-setting their baseline and releasing a hazy NEIPA to replace Backseat Berner: https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...-berner-hello-berner-ipa.563895/#post-5936110 Some have speculated that Long Trail (the parent company and owner) wants to focus on their legacy product line (like LT Ale, Bearyweiss, Double Bag, Hibernator, etc) and leave the creative side to Otter Creek. This would make sense as LT re-sets both theirs & OC's branding and messaging, and therefore ditching Limbo.
This would make a lot of sense, in my mind, as well. I was in touch with LT the winter after they discontinued (at the time) Hibernator. As a huge fan of Hibernator during some cold months in New England, I was wondering why they were ditching that, in favor of trying their hand at getting into the IPA game, when a brewery in their portfolio (Otter Creek) was already cranking out new IPAs.
Not sure where you heard that one, but Head Charge and Space Juice are two different beers. FWIW, we're moving away from Space Juice can distro on the Long Trail side but still sending a limited amount of draught to market. As for Head Charge, you can expect a lighter colored offering with a lower bitterness and smoother mouthfeel than Space Juice. There's also considerably more haze in Head Charge with a grist of 2-row and oats. Hops are Citra, Amarillo and Cascade where Space Juice is more Galaxy and Mosaic. Hope you'll get to taste some Head Charge for yourself as it's a beer the OCB Crew is stoked on.
The idea is to have VT IPA and Limbo simultaneously available so there's no plans to replace that beer at this time. As a matter of face, fresh Limbo was rolling off the line on Friday and we continue to bottle it. Apologies for any miscommunication on that front. For Space Juice, we moved away from the cans but are still sending a limited amount of draught to market. Cheers
Glad it's staying. Limbo was my gateway IPA along with Sixpoint's Bengali Tiger and I still love both.
