Picked up a sixpack of the Sam Adams Longshot series, featuring (2 each of) three different brews. I was wondering why mixed sixpacks aren't a more regular thing? I know plenty of breweries that sell mixed cases with 3-6 different beers in a 12pk. Why not more variety pack style sixers? I feel like this would be a great way for breweries to introduce people to new styles and flavors.

    CHEERS! :grinning:

I like mixed/variety six packs. It gives me a chance to try different brews that I probably wouldn't try otherwise. Sometimes I don't want to buy a 6 pack of something that I'm not sure if I'll like or not.

I used to dig this kind of thing, but then I started shopping at stores that allow you to pull single bottles out of packs and mix your own six. Quite a few stores around here even offer a 10%-15% discount when you mix your own six. So no need for pre-mixed anymore.

I would definitely buy a mix six. Better than a case! atleast if you don't like the beers there is only 6

I think it's a great idea. The best one I can think of was when BBC had the longshot series a couple years ago with a barleywine/olde ale/saison. Talk about bang for your buck!

I dig it. The best thing about Saranac is that they offer their own mix 6 pack.

Yes I would be down for mix sixers if they are priced right and contain solid brews. 2 ipa's, 2 stouts, 2 belgians etc.

Two shops I visit have this set up and usually charge 1.99 a beer or 9.99 a sixer. As long as they are fresh, as many others said, it a great way to demo some brew. Find some great ones this way.

I think both Saranac and Shiner do this, and while I'm not much a fan of either brewery, I definitely support the concept.

I think breweries could capitalize on this somehow. I'm imagining themed six packs, like maybe a "hop pack," featuring 2 ipas, 2 pales, and 2 ibas. Or a brewery's belgian pack featuring 2 dubbels, 2 tripels, and 2 quads. This could also make it so some really expensive brews are easier for the consumer to purchase, just include only 2 of them in a sixer along with 4 other reasonable beers and then you have a pack that should only be a couple bucks more then the typical.

I would go for the mix six as I often go for a mix 12 and have beers I don't care for sitting in the fridge. Great way to try brew you have never had nor may ever otherwise. I vote: Hell Yeah!

Of course. The best thing would be a 6 pack with 6 different beers. I think I have seen such a thing from Lakefront.

I suspect they aren't regular for a couple of reasons. While lots of folks I know would indeed like a mixed six from some, but not all, breweries there are lots of others who don't even want a mixed case of four beers let alone a mixed six containing some of those beers. Also, having watched the bottling line/case packing lines at work in some small to medium sized breweries I can only imagine how much they would have to alter the brewing/bottling/packaging schedule and the line operation (not to mention how much additional labor they would have to hire to produce a mixed six) for distribution from the brewery. I think you've probably got to have a pretty big operation to pull it off.

Pretty much all I buy anymore are mixed cases and the create your own 6-packs. I love trying new beers, and I think I have "beer ADD" so I grow tired of the same beer/same style quickly. Even if I absolutely love a brew, I will still get into the mood for something else in no time...not to mention I drink a certain style depending on my mood, and I occasionally food pair as well.

I'm all about the concept, however as others have said most of my purchases are singles aka mix 2-3-4-5 or-6 packs.

I've found myself buying a lot more mixed 12 packs when visiting my gf for a weekend....a mixed sixer would probably function just the same without giving me too much of a quantity of something I might not love.

I like the idea. I hate buying a new six pack of something I've never tried only to realize after the first beer that I don't really like it.
