The Beer Temple is the best shop in the city.

Beer Temple and Puerto Rican Food and Liquor are my 2 favorites. Junior, the owner of PRFL is one of the nicest owners I've ever met, and if you tell him you're from out of town, he'll make sure to send you home right.

One of my friends lives near Junior's, and I've heard nothing but great things.

I would second/third West Lakeview Liquors and Beer Temple, and will as usual point out that making a trip to Binny's in Lincoln Park not only affords you the ability to grab a beer in their taproom/drink it while browsing their beer selection, but leaves you directly across from Goose Island Clybourn, which is still a must-visit in my eyes.

Is Binny's south loop worth hitting for bottles? I'm guessing it isn't mentioned for a reason.

Not if you are hitting LP binny's.

Beer Temple and Lincoln Park Binny's are the obvious choices but they have been mentioned numerous times.

Bottles & Cans is good too and right by Half Acre for all your bottle and growler needs. As a matter of fact, the whole Northcenter/Lincoln Square area is packed with cool bars, restaurants, and shops. Gene's Sausage Shop (awesome roof bar), Heuttenbar, Grafton, Bad Apple, Fountainhead (Roof bar), Tiny Lounge, Laschett's (Great German food and beer), Long Room...and a bunch of good restaurants. A Korean place on the corner of Berteau & Oakley and Fork being a couple that jump to mind.

It's great, but if you're hitting up Lincoln Park there's no reason to hit up south loop. They have the exact same selection. Only difference is LP binnys is across from Goose Clybourn, so you can knock out 2 birds with one stone.

That being said, I would still recommend the smaller shops over binnys. It's so much more personal. Binnys is like shopping at Walmart.

Binny's south loop is a quick walk from my hotel, but you guys sold me on also hitting up the Lincoln Park area. Looks like I'll be set between the red line and uber/taxi. I'll also check out a lot of the other recommendations. I havent been to Chicago for 7 years. Cheers!

My three favorites are Grand and Western Liquors (Albert is the man), Puerto Rico Food and Liquor (Junior is also the man) and, of course, Fischman's. If you're in the G&W/PRFL area, you might as well check out Noble Grape too since they tend to sell stuff slower (Velvet Merkin was shelf turding there) and a cool new spot at 6 Corners called Liquor Park.

West Lakeview Liquors, Beer Temple, Binny's in Lincoln Park ... got it ... do any of these places allow you to purchase SINGLES (similar to Total Wine's policy)? So breaking up a 4 or 6-pack cool with them?

WLV does some singles (they choose certain beers that they'll sell one-by-one), but not everything, nor is it the majority of what they offer. They have a couple shelves in their coolers devoted to singles, but mostly you have to buy the standard 4 or 6-pack. I don't remember about BT, and Binny's does not (unless you count their "make your own 6-pack" selection, which may or may not satisfy you).

If that's the case, I would just go to south loop then. It's pretty much the same store. Especially if you're going to be walking with a bunch of beer.
