Driving down to Charleston, SC from Baltimore next month, looking for some place to stop halfway-ish there, maybe for the night. Anything good right off 95 that I'll hit somewhere in the NC or very southern VA area?

I'd suggest stopping in Raleigh. You'd have to hit 85 from 95 I think, but that is a prime area to stop on the way down with many options. I don't think there is much in Southern VA.

Beer wise, Richmond is a great stop. Just off 95 is Hardywood, along with Isley, Ardent, and the bottle shop Once Upon a Vine. If you hit 64 from 95 and head west a few miles, you have Mekong and The Answer Brewpub (right next to each other). The Answer is coming out with some very solid hoppy brews, and you can get a crowler or growler to go. Even if you don't stop for the night, it's definitely worth stopping at one of the places if you have the time.

Thanks for the suggestion! Are there any places in particular that are "must" stops if we stay in Raleigh (brewery and/or restaurant)?

Awesome! Might have to stop by Hardywood and/or The Answer on our way back on Sunday. Have heard great things about Hardywood, but not familiar with The Answer.

Trophy has fantastic pizza and beer. It is really small, so it gets crowded but it is worth it.

The Answer is the brewpub next to Mekong. The head brewer is the guy from Extra Billy's and they are cranking out some insanely great beers.

Bottle Revolution, Tasty, State of Beer for bottle shops, depending on where you stay, with Bottle Revolution being my favorite. Busy Bee is an excellent beer bar. Avoid Raleigh Times... its owner hates fun and wants to set downtown back several years.... it's also not as good of a bar as it used to be.

Although I do not love Crank Arm's beers, it is right beside Tasty Beverage and within walking distance of Trophy. Big Boss is a cool spot, as is Raleigh Brewing Company.

So, looks like we will be stopping in Richmond. Anyone else have a recommendation for dinner?
