Does anyone know of a merchant that still sells Dixie Beer? I know that the original brewery was closed after Hurricane Katrina, but was I recently told that another brewery had purchased the rights and was producing Dixie Beer in its original formula. Any truth to this?
Dixie beer is still produced as well as the other brews associated with Dixie. However, you are correct. I think they are contact brewed in Michigan.
I think you will have to go to LA buy it. I was visiting my parents recently and saw it in a Wal Mart and Winn Dixie supermarket in a small town about 45 miles from New Orleans. It must still have widespread distribution in LA. I can't get it here in north MS.
After Katrina and the destruction of the brewery, Dixie was contract-brewed at Minhas, Monroe, WI (but, AFAIK, the original owners still control the brand). Dixie is also master-distributed in the US by the importer PaulanerHPUSA, so it is available outside LA (their facebook page has a "Beer Finder") or write [email protected]
On my recent trip down South, I saw Dixie beer on the shelves at Liquor Barn in Louisville and several places in Birmingam, AL and Tuscaloosa, AL.
Wow, I just saw it on the shelf tonight at Parti-Pak Liquors in Indianapolis (96th Street Store). I don't recall seeing it around here before.
