Looking for a roasty stout under 6% abv

    Agree...very roasty and flavorful at just 5.2 ABV.

    I'm not sure if you're planning on making black and tans, but if you are the final gravity of both beers being used is more important than their ABVs. Anyway, have fun with your experiment whatever it is.

    Just slightly over, but to me Deschutes Obsidian is very roasty and on sale around here for like $6.99 a 6 pack. It's my go-to great value beer.

    Smuttynose Robust Porter is nice! 6.2% though.

    Don't know what you're going for, but you might consider a roastier schwarzbier in lieu of a porter.

    I don't know how widely available it is, but St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout from McAuslan is pretty roasty. I've always wondered how they manage to make it so rich at 5% abv.

    Lots of great suggestions. I'm definitely going to try Out of Bounds and The Poet. Despite them being distributed here I have actually never had either one.
