I recently had a Hello My Name Is Amber from Flat 12 and I thought that was a solid amber ale.

Fat Tire and Dead Guy Ale are great "training wheel" ambers. Ambergeddon by Ale Asylum is excellent. I also really like Two Brothers Domaine DuPage (even though it isn't considered an amber beer)

And yet my 2 favorite ambers don't show up on that list: Alesmith Anvil, and Coop Ale Works Native Amber

Dead Guy is a maibock, I believe, but the OP may want to give it a try based on the flavor profile he is seeking (along with other maibocks).

Everyone will chant Nugget Nectar here, which I'm not going to dispute. However, let me give you another AWESOME amber/red suggestion..

    Ithaca Cascazilla.

The Ambers that I enjoy tend to be on the hoppier side. To me Nugget Nectar is the king of the ambers - nothing comes close.

As for less hoppy ambers, I'd say that Anderson Valley Boont is the best.

Levitation from stone is amazing!!! At 4.4% the flavor is incredible and you can drink it all day. Zoe and troegs ambers are awesome as well!

Let's see... traditional, I'll second Bell's Amber. Just a really flavorful, classic amber ale. Odell Levity is also solid, and more traditional than the hoppier spring seasonal, Red.

And on the hoppier side of things, I love the well-known Levitation, but there are several others that I'm surprised haven't been mentioned yet:

(listed from lower to higher hoppiness, at least to my tastebuds)
    • Ruedrich's Red Seal Ale by North Coast
    • Pursuit of Hoppiness by Grand Teton
    • Hop Head Red by Green Flash

While working in Tacoma I was introduced to Mac & Jacks African Amber and could not get enough in the week I was there. Returned to Chicago and found you cannot get it here. While working in Paducah found Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale which I can get in Chicago and discovered they taste really close to the same. Can someone give me suggestions of other Ambers with the same taste.?

    Thanks
    Mark
