See, this is why I came to BA. I never would have thought of this. Gotta ask...Did it work like you thought it would?

To tell you the truth, I had no idea what to expect. This was my firts time using the Randall Jr. I didnt let it sit for very long, you could pick up a hint of vanilla and coffee but nothing like the flavors in BCBCS and BCBVS. Might do this again and let it sit longer.

This from Tyranena will probably be the closest you get. Central Waters BBS was pretty good, but the vanilla wasn't all that present.

After factoring in the cost of ingredients and the full purchase price of the barrel, this will end up costing me $4.00 per bomber. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Actually I just noticed you're in Florida too. Hit me up in a couple of months and I'll give you one.

I was just discussing this last weekend, but from the other side. Frankly I'm surprised as many brewers mess with mint as you do hear about.

Main reasons imo are that mint is a very potent herb. A little goes a long way and before you know it the beer is ruined/undrinkable. Most mint stouts/beers I have had have wound up having a menthol-like quality that irritated the throat - like sucking a mint halls cough drop then taking a big swig of water - feel that burn? Yeah, not fun in a beer.

Of note, at the Celestial Seasonings tea factory in Boulder, CO they literally have a separate room just for their mint. It has a sealed door and everything. On the tour they shut the door behind us while they talked about it. It's hard to fix something once it has been "over minted."

Not barrel aged, but Mean Old Tom from Maine Beer Co. is mighty fine.

There are some hop varietals that are also known to impart a "minty" flavor but i can't imagine it's anywhere as pungent as using actual mint leaves. Northern brewer seems to be cited most often.

I do this with every BCBS I drink. Usually takes more than a drop though. I think last one I added 4 drops. Makes a huge difference.

$80 if you're lucky. I offered $100 in trade in Feb and didn't get a sniff of a lead for one... My favorite vanilla beer is probably Aphrodite then Victory at Sea

There are still a bunch of these left in MD. It has Cocoa Nibs as well though. It is like $25 for a bomber though.

you don't notice the oak too much, but I find that dominion's oak barrel stout is a pretty damn good vanilla stout for its price point
