Im heading to the store this afternoon and ill be hitting the liqour store. Big styles like imp stouts, barrel aged beers, quads and other big Belgians have never been my thing ive actually not had any of the styles besides double stout. Can someone give me some available examples i can check out? Its going to be a long weekend and im looking for a couple beers to be interesting almost all day. Cheers.
you havent drank any beers that start w/ the letters "A or B"...what can i say? i noticed or your timing might bring you across Carton Reg Coffee
Another vote for Big Bad Baptist. Also Great Divide's Yeti or Oatmeal Yeti. Heck, Alesmith Speedway Stout is fairly easy to find and really, really good.
Some widely available good ones: Stouts - Founders Imperial Stout, North Coast Old Rasputin, Great Divide Yeti, Bell's Expedition, Oscar Blues Ten Fidy Strong Dark Belgians - St Bernardus Abt 12, Ommegang Three Philosophers, Gulden Draak, Brooklyn Local 2, Unibroue La Terrible
Sounds like the perfect time to get into some classic Belgians. I'll second some of the suggestions already made. St. Bernardus Abt 12, Rochefort 8 & 10, Ommegang 3 Philosophers, Boulevard The Sixth Glass, Chimay Blue, Chimay Red, Unibroue Trois Pistoles. Enjoy!
Big bad Baptist and speedway stout are both phenomenal shelf beers. Highly recommend picking those up, you wont regret if you're into big coffee stouts
Didn't know that, Alesmith isn't available in Indiana either but it's shelf beer in all of the surrounding states.
Maybe try a dopplebock for a bit different take on the big complex beers. Easy to find one is Weihenstephaner Korbinian (which is just excellent) or Ayinger Celebrator. A weizenbock isn't a bad choice either and you can go with Ayinger Weizenbock and not go wrong there. If you can still locate any Victory Moonglow, get that as well.
