    Hi - New member here,

I have done a few extract homebrews over the past year and for Christmas my brother decided to get me ingredients for an all grain brew. He has not brewed before so when he went to the local hombrew store (KegWorks - Buffalo N.Y. - great store), he basically asked for ingredients to make a good brew and someone helped pick out what I would need (I am assuming following some recipe). Problem I am having is finding an exact recipe looking just at the ingredients. I also have not done an all grain beer before so from what I have found, I am planning to do a brew in bag method because it looks a little easier to me. So what I have is...

10 lb Canada Malting 2 Row Pilsen Malt, 5 lb Great Western Malting 2 Row Premium Malt, 1 lb Briess Malting Aromatic Malt, 1 lb Briess Malting Victory Malt, 1 lb Great Western Malting Crystal 40 Malt, 1 oz Comet Hop Pellets, 2 oz Cascade Hop Pellets, 1 oz Palisades Hop Pellets, and 1 Burton Ale Yeast WLP023.

If anyone has a good recipe I can try with what I have, I could use some advice. I am looking to make an IPA or some kind of Ale.

Just to clarify: are your grains already milled, and were they bagged separately?

With WLP023 and those grains/hops, you might put together a nice Pale Ale. Probably not enough hops for an IPA.

You could plug these ingredients into an online recipe calculator to estimate what you would get from the malts as far as color and OG. The hops included, like alanforbeer says, don't look like enough to make an IPA using 18 lbs of grain. I am not familiar with Comet, but Cascade and Palisades should play well together for aroma/flavor additions (30 min or less).

And yes, your grain needs to be milled, as it must be mashed, unlike extract brewing.

You might want to go to your local store for a couple of more oz of hops, and some advice as to the process of getting from your bag of goodies to a nice IPA.

Another question...did you also purchase the necessary equipment to brew all-grain when you purchased the ingredients?

They are not milled yet, they are in sealed bags so I was going to wait until I was going to brew to have them milled from a friend to keep them fresh. And yeah I was wondering if that would be enough hops to do an IPA, I might get a few more oz.

Great, yeah I found a good recipe calculator, didn't think of searching for that. Thanks.
